Daycycle 116 [ November 13 - November 26 ]

daycycle 116

[Nov 13 - Nov 26]

[OOC Plotting for this Daycycle can be found here.]
[The Charity Ball Entertainment post is here.]
[This DC has been extended through 11/26.]

Early Morning [0800 - 0900]All Troubleshooters Report for Duty

No Special Troubleshooters have been selected for a mission this morning.

Morning & Afternoon [0900 - 1600]Service Firm Positions
All Troubleshooters not assigned a mission should report to their Service Firm for their daily duties, unless specifically assigned a different shift.

Matt Murdock's office will be assigned to defend the most recent Specials accused of treason. He will not be allowed to contact the traitors directly, but he will be given the task of preparing his cases. He has 48 hours to prepare.

Jack Harkness has been selected to plan the entertainment for tonight's Charity Ball, thanks to the popularity of his performances during the Alpha Talent Show a few days ago. When he asks The Computer for help, several specials are assigned to him. Izzy Lightwood will be his event planning assistant and "Stiles" Stilinski will assist in MCing the night's event. Due to their popularity, all Specials will be approached about being auctioned off for dances in order to help raise money by Jack, Izzy and Stiles. They will also be asked if they're willing to take part in specially planned choreographed dances. Dance lessons will be provided for those that require them during the afternoon hours.

Evening [1600 - 2200]Citizen Improvement
All Alpha citizens are encouraged to better themselves through Alpha’s wide variety of educational, entertainment and cultural opportunities offered each evening. Attending these sanctioned events are not mandatory, but is highly encouraged by The Computer. Citizens choosing not to take advantage of these opportunities, have a growing number of other options available to them in how to spend their hard earned credits and free time.

Tonight’s event will begin at 1800 at the Alpha Museum of Fine Art and will be hosted by The Humanists Alpha Society for the Arts. Tickets to the event are 1000cr and can be bought up until an hour before the event begins. Attendees have been given special permission to wear Old Reckoning clothing for this event only, as long as it is the same color as their clearance level. Specials may notice that many of the Alpha Citizen's outfits have gotten key parts of Old Reckoning clothing wrong, with buttons instead of sequins, for example, or men wearing ties that are much too long and go to their knees. Alpha's Very Special Forces will be present to ensure the safety of those attending.

An entire wing of the museum has been cleared as a makeshift dance floor. In an attached room there are several tables covered in white tablecloths and set with the crystal and china that usually only graces Violet citizen tables. Along the wall is a massive buffet made with real food and including an elaborate ice sculpture. There is a bar in the corner where Alpha's finest spirits are being disbursed freely. For the first hour, the focus is on the food and mingling. The music playing is calming and instrumental. There are some that steal the dancefloor for a slow spin, but the majority of the attendees seem reluctant to move away from the buffet.

And then at approximately 1900, Jack Harkness will take the stage and begin the evening's real entertainment.

Alpha Curfew Restrictions
All Alpha citizens should be in their quarters within the Wagon Wheel by 2200, unless they’ve been given permission from a GREEN or higher clearance level citizen. Sleeping Aid gas is dispelled each night in the Wagon Wheel at 2200 to assist citizens in getting a productive sleeping period.

Confession Booths
There are hundreds of confession booths available around Alpha Complex if a citizen would like to communicate directly with the computer. Please use these confession booths to report mission statuses, report treason or terrorist acts, unregistered mutants, confess your trespasses against Alpha Complex, request propaganda or speak with Your Friend, The Computer, at any time.

Katniss never minded being alone. Once upon a time, she could easily spend hours alone in the woods with no one but her own thoughts for company. She still could - if there were actual woods here to lose herself in. But since Prim's death, she's considered something else: it's better for everyone if she keeps away from them. That's part of the reason she's staying by herself tonight. She's already been making enough of a mistake in getting to know others. Then there's her memories. Glitches. Whatever. They never seem to quit haunting her.

When Alcide approaches, Katniss startles for a moment. She had spent some time in Derek's bed this morning awake and not wanting to leave the warmth and safety of his arms. That gave her enough time to watch his roommates as they slept (not at all creepy). She recognizes him and for a second there, she worries that he might recognize her. And might say something - exactly what she tried to avoid by sneaking out that morning.

If he doesn't recognize her, he doesn't say anything. That's enough to get her to actually respond that small closed-mouthed smile with one of her own. Then, completely earnest, she asks, "Why would you want to waste money on that?"

[personal profile] rouxgaroux 2016-11-16 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
If Alcide knew he was being watched by someone he doesn't know while he slept, that would be just a little bit creepy. Katniss must have been very quiet, sneaking in and sneaking back out, or Alcide might have recognized her. He hadn't used his gas mask last night so maybe he was sleeping a little heavier than normal. Since arriving here, he hasn't slept well and maybe he'd just needed some sleep last night. Either way, Katniss is safe... for now. He doesn't recognize her from any of the other Specials here.

"Don't see much else to spend it on here." He half-jokes with a shrug. And really, there isn't, not even on the black market. Alcide's not a materialistic person. He doesn't need much. "Besides, you were lookin' so serious. Thought maybe... you were lost somewhere and needed help gettin' back."

It might sound strange, but Alcide knows what it's like to be lost in your own thoughts, in memories of the past or the what if's of the future. "I'm Alcide Herveaux."

[personal profile] stillplaying 2016-11-17 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
If it helps, Katniss hadn't meant to be creepy. She was only watching because she was awake and didn't want to wake Derek. Nor had she wanted to leave yet. So she had stared out in the darkness and watched Buffy and the man that she presumed was Alcide sleep. With Derek's body wrapped around hers, it would have been difficult to watch him. Someday maybe the sleeping gas will keep her asleep through the night. Then again, if it does, she won't have any excuse to visit Derek anymore.

Normally, Katniss isn't much of a materialistic person either. In Panem, she had a few items that meant something. But spending money on food was always most important. Here, there had been nothing she wanted. At least until she had found the dress. And even then, it wasn't the dress that mattered so much as the person who had created it. It had cost her most of her credits but for Cinna, it was worth it.

"It would still be a waste," she points out with a small shrug of her own. her thoughts aren't worth much. Her memories even less. "I'm Katniss Everdeen. You room with Buffy and Derek, don't you?"

[personal profile] rouxgaroux 2016-11-17 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
The comment is so self depreciating that it makes Alcide's heart momentarily clench with emotion. What happened to this girl to make her feel like her thoughts, emotions, whatever, are a waste? It makes him sad for her. Not that he expected her to bare her soul to him. Nobody he knows, except Sookie maybe, trusts that fast. And here, it would just be naive to do so. But he hadn't expected that, what she said, about it being a waste.

It takes him a second to recover and push that to the back-burner so that they can move forward. "Katniss." He says her name with a nod in greeting. It's a very unique name, not one he's heard before. And where he's from, people come up with all manner of unique names. Alcide, anyone?

"Yeah, I room with them." Tossed into a random room with a werewolf and a slayer. Really, they're all three very normal considering their backgrounds. The same could probably be said for a lot of the people here. "I'm guessin' you know both?"
stillplaying: ([interest] you have my complete attentio)

[personal profile] stillplaying 2016-11-22 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
She can't help it. Self-deprecating has been, and remains, a large part of who Katniss is. She hadn't liked herself all that much prior to the 74th Hunger Games. Since, she's utterly despised herself. It's easier to speak so poorly of herself because Katniss doesn't believe she deserves to be thought better of. Why should she? She's used her unwanted status to attempt failed assassinations that only got better people killed. She's killed. She isn't a good person and it's better that people realize that early on.

Of course, there are people like Derek that she has been completely honest with, that know point blank how awful she is, and yet don't seem to care. She'll never understand that. But Alcide doesn't comment on that. Thankfully.

"Like the plant," she adds in, noting the way he repeats her name. "Some people also call it arrowhead." Kind of fitting really, considered her talent with a bow. "I work with Derek and Buffy..." Katniss frowns, unsure how to describe her relationship with the woman. "She keeps talking to me."

There. That works.

[personal profile] rouxgaroux 2016-11-23 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
He nods at her explanation of the name Katniss and shrugs. "Got no good excuse for my name." Which is true. He knows in Greek it means Strong Man, which is true enough for him. But he also knows that neither one of his parents are that insightful. His dad was probably drunk and decided it would be funny. But Alcide doesn't seem too bothered by it in any case. In fact, he smirks after the admittance because really, it is kind of funny to him.

As far as Katniss's relation to Derek and Buffy, Alcide nods. "Yeah, they're both good people, far as I can tell."

To be truthful, Alcide hasn't been here long enough to make a full assessment to that fact. But he is closest to Derek and Buffy than he is to anyone else aside from Zee. They haven't done anything to prove otherwise to him yet. He has to hold that to be true going into the future with them.

He gestures a hand in the general direction of the goings on around the room. "So what do you think of all this? You havin' fun yet, Katniss?" He's unsure that she has, given the seriousness of her expression when he'd first noticed her. "Anyone asked you to dance yet?"

Most people don't really have a good excuse for their names. Katniss and Prim are unique in that, in the fondness their parents shared for plants. At least Alcide isn't a ridiculous name like the ones they give children in District 1. He could do a lot worse as names go. He could be named Gloss. But she doesn't mention that. If she did, she might have to explain Panem and that's one of the last things she feels like doing right now.

Katniss nods in response to Alcide's comment on Derek and Buffy. They seem like good people. It's Katniss that's the problem, that probably shouldn't be spending time around good people. As distrustful as Katniss can be of those around her, she dislikes herself even more. People here shouldn't be so willing to let her into their lives and yet...

"It's different than normal," Katniss comments rather than answering the questions he poses. She probably could be having more fun than she actually is but Katniss doesn't trust anything in the room enough to relax like that. Someone needs to watch Prim. "And no, no one's asked yet."

[personal profile] rouxgaroux 2016-11-29 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah it is that." He says with a nod, glancing around the room at all the food and everyone in their finery, showing some personality and generally having a good time. It's... weird.

Of course, Alcide is suspicious as hell of all this too. He's here because his closest friend in this place didn't want to go alone and he's that kind of guy. But this entire thing only serves to magnify the basic freedoms that they don't have on a daily basis here. That's his opinion, but he isn't gonna say that cause he doesn't want to add to Katniss's sadness, or whatever it is that's going on with her.

He'd rather make her smile, at least a little bit, today. Most serious things for another time if they ever meet again. This is supposedly a party though. So he offers her hand. "How about it? I'm only so-so at it but I promise not to step on your toes."

Katniss glances at him when he looks around the room. He's paying attention to everything around them. She can appreciate that. She's spent most of her evening watching her sister and making certain she's safe. Protecting Prim also means watching the others here. Ultimately, so much of the festivities reminds her of the Capitol. It's unnerving. You'd have to be an idiot not to have suspicions.

From the little she knows about him, Alcide isn't a bad guy. He's someone Buffy and Derek both trust. She's refused the few offers to dance that she's had tonight. Dancing had been something that she had loved growing up. Something she and Prim had spent hours doing on cold, winter nights. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to join in one dance. She can still watch Prim from the dance floor.

"Okay," she says, placing her hand in his.

[personal profile] rouxgaroux 2016-12-02 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Alcide didn't trust this event right from the start at the very mention of it. He's only here because his best friend wanted some company. Still, it seems weird to help out the boy processing place when it feels like the Computer is their enemy and the bots, by extension, should be too. It also doesn't help that this event serves to remind Alcide why he's fighting to get the missing pieces of himself back in the first place.

Still, he's had a good enough time with Zee and Buffy that he's in decent spirits even if he's still distrusting of basically everything about this shindig and most of the people blindly enjoying the affair itself. He's memorized faces and names, noting who's the most into this thing, and putting them on a list of people never to trust.

For a moment, he's pretty sure she's going to turn him down and that's okay. They're both pretty distrusting of things in general if for different reasons. But then she says yes and Alcide offers her a small grin and a nod. They go out to the designated dancing area together and Alcide holds one of her hands and lets the other rest at her waist as they begin to dance.

"You know, I came to this thing prepared to hate it. But it's okay. I mean, if I gotta be here then I'm havin' a good time." He says. "Truthfully, I'm only here cause my closest friend wanted somebody to go with. What about you?"

It's much the same reason for her. Prim wanted to go and even though her roommate had paid for her ticket, Katniss wasn't going to let Prim go without being there to keep an eye on her. So long as Prim's having a good time, Katniss is too. She's been watching her sister enjoy herself. Ready to step in if someone shows just a little too much interest in the younger Everdeen.

Sacrificing a few seconds of her vigilance doesn't mean that Prim will die again. This isn't the middle of a war. Her sister won't die. One dance. One dance can't be the end of the world. So she lets him lead her to the dancing area and she rests her free hand on his upper arm. After so many winters passed dancing the night away with her sister, dancing is something that comes naturally to her.

And she even smiles a little when he explains why he's here. "My sister. She really wanted to go."

[personal profile] rouxgaroux 2016-12-07 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"You got your sister here." That's surprising to him. He hasn't met anyone who has family here, that he knows of. He thinks about his own sister and isn't sure whether to be glad she's not here or wishing she were here given the current state of their home world. "That's nice, also probably a lot'a stress and worry."

He notices the ease with which she dances. He isn't quite so good as that but he makes do alright. He's kept his promise of not stepping on her toes, at the very least. Alcide is gonna count that as a win.

"I mean, if my sister was here I'd probably be on her like white on rice." He clarifies his statement. "Can be a bit over protective of her that way even though I'm younger."

If the circumstances could be different, Prim being in Alpha Complex is one of the last things that Katniss would ever want. But this is only way they’ll ever be together again. More than that, this is the only chance her sister has of ever getting to live to see her fourteenth birthday. The Computer’s decisions are doubtful at best but in bringing Prim here, It did something right.

“White on rice?” Katniss asks and then shakes her head. That’s not important. She thinks that she understands the gist of what he has to say anyway. It’s how she feels every time she has to part from her sister; that she should be by her side all the time. That if she had before, back in Panem, then maybe Prim wouldn’t have been killed. “We’re in different rooms. And we have different jobs. I also don’t think she’d like it if I shadowed her the entire dance.”

The longing look she casts in her sister’s direction makes it clear that that’s exactly what she wants to do.

"Yeah, probably wouldn't win many brownie points with her that way." He can imagine Janice trying to get to know some guy and Alcide looming over her... literally, since he's so tall. Janice would tell him to get away all while wanting him just close enough in case the guy in question decided to cop a feel.

That thought is what prompts him to add: "Although I'm guessin' she doesn't mind havin' you close even if she doesn't want you on top of everything she does. That's the way siblings work, I think... at least in my experience."

His gaze follows hers over to the sibling in question, or at least who he assumes is the sibling in question. He probably shouldn't be surprised by how young Prim looks, but he is anyway. He hates that kids get pulled into this place. "How much younger is she?"

Looming isn't one of those things that Katniss will ever be able to do. She's too short to ever accomplish that. But Prim isn't much taller than she is and that does put the sisters on equal footing. Still, Alcide's right. Although there aren't any brownie points Katniss needs to earn, the last thing she does want is to lose any. Prim only arrived a couple of days prior and jeopardizing their relationship is the last thing she wants. Alcide's comment does get a hint of a smile.

"She's four years younger," she answers, glancing at Alcide and then back at Prim. "But she was only seven when our father died and our mother--" Katniss hesitates. It's more than she normally reveals and being that open makes her uncomfortable. But Derek and Buffy both trust this man. She needs to start taking leaps and finding allies if she's going to protect Prim from the worst of Alpha. "I was the only one that she really had."

[personal profile] rouxgaroux 2017-01-02 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
"I get that, more than I can say. I mean, didn't have a parent who died... and I'm sorry you had to take that responsibility. But I did have a mom who left and a dad who was a damn drunk so... it was just us, me and Janice against the world." Alcide doesn't realize just yet how much she's just revealed about herself that she normally wouldn't have. And truth be told, he's just revealed quite a bit about himself too. He wants to share though, since she shared.

Strange, how when others open up it makes it easier to open up about yourself too. Alcide just wants her to know that while the circumstances might be different, he gets it.

"Anyway, protective siblings, the both of us." He says with a small smile. "You're lucky to have her with you. Not that this place is great, but it's better than home right now."
