Daycycle 116 [ November 13 - November 26 ]
daycycle 116
[Nov 13 - Nov 26]
[OOC Plotting for this Daycycle can be found here.]
[The Charity Ball Entertainment post is here.]
[This DC has been extended through 11/26.]
Early Morning [0800 - 0900] — All Troubleshooters Report for Duty
No Special Troubleshooters have been selected for a mission this morning.
Morning & Afternoon [0900 - 1600] — Service Firm Positions
All Troubleshooters not assigned a mission should report to their Service Firm for their daily duties, unless specifically assigned a different shift.
Matt Murdock's office will be assigned to defend the most recent Specials accused of treason. He will not be allowed to contact the traitors directly, but he will be given the task of preparing his cases. He has 48 hours to prepare.
Jack Harkness has been selected to plan the entertainment for tonight's Charity Ball, thanks to the popularity of his performances during the Alpha Talent Show a few days ago. When he asks The Computer for help, several specials are assigned to him. Izzy Lightwood will be his event planning assistant and "Stiles" Stilinski will assist in MCing the night's event. Due to their popularity, all Specials will be approached about being auctioned off for dances in order to help raise money by Jack, Izzy and Stiles. They will also be asked if they're willing to take part in specially planned choreographed dances. Dance lessons will be provided for those that require them during the afternoon hours.
Evening [1600 - 2200] — Citizen Improvement
All Alpha citizens are encouraged to better themselves through Alpha’s wide variety of educational, entertainment and cultural opportunities offered each evening. Attending these sanctioned events are not mandatory, but is highly encouraged by The Computer. Citizens choosing not to take advantage of these opportunities, have a growing number of other options available to them in how to spend their hard earned credits and free time.
Tonight’s event will begin at 1800 at the Alpha Museum of Fine Art and will be hosted by The Humanists Alpha Society for the Arts. Tickets to the event are 1000cr and can be bought up until an hour before the event begins. Attendees have been given special permission to wear Old Reckoning clothing for this event only, as long as it is the same color as their clearance level. Specials may notice that many of the Alpha Citizen's outfits have gotten key parts of Old Reckoning clothing wrong, with buttons instead of sequins, for example, or men wearing ties that are much too long and go to their knees. Alpha's Very Special Forces will be present to ensure the safety of those attending.
An entire wing of the museum has been cleared as a makeshift dance floor. In an attached room there are several tables covered in white tablecloths and set with the crystal and china that usually only graces Violet citizen tables. Along the wall is a massive buffet made with real food and including an elaborate ice sculpture. There is a bar in the corner where Alpha's finest spirits are being disbursed freely. For the first hour, the focus is on the food and mingling. The music playing is calming and instrumental. There are some that steal the dancefloor for a slow spin, but the majority of the attendees seem reluctant to move away from the buffet.
And then at approximately 1900, Jack Harkness will take the stage and begin the evening's real entertainment.
Alpha Curfew Restrictions
All Alpha citizens should be in their quarters within the Wagon Wheel by 2200, unless they’ve been given permission from a GREEN or higher clearance level citizen. Sleeping Aid gas is dispelled each night in the Wagon Wheel at 2200 to assist citizens in getting a productive sleeping period.
Confession Booths
There are hundreds of confession booths available around Alpha Complex if a citizen would like to communicate directly with the computer. Please use these confession booths to report mission statuses, report treason or terrorist acts, unregistered mutants, confess your trespasses against Alpha Complex, request propaganda or speak with Your Friend, The Computer, at any time.

Also in the vein of making sure Zee is happy to be here with him and not at all embarrassed, he's gotten himself suit. Initially, he'd planned on just wearing the jumpsuit. But now... well, he guesses he looks alright. They had to make the suit new because of his broad shoulders and broad... well, everything, and here he is.
He's just finishing off his third beer when he's eyeing the food table again. Luckily, he and Zee seem to be on the same page in this regard. "I dunno about you but I kinda wanna commandeer a whole tray of those cream puffs." The way they melt in his mouth and aren't overly sweet but just a little sweet is kind of fantastic.
no subject
He's drinking beer and he hasn't said a word about the fact that she's drinking something fruity that's making her face pink and warm. The more she drinks, the warmer she feels and after so long in a hot, uncomfortable jumpsuit, Zatanna is kind of embracing the whole warm tinglies thing she's got going on, because this dress is so pretty but...it's a little chilly. There's something to be said about the indulgence they're being afforded right now and maybe none of them should trust it, but Zee is having too much fun to think too much on that possibility.
People who know better would call her pleasantly buzzed right now. Zee calls it being an adult for the first time. His comment makes her giggle, a humming amusement that escalates a little before dying off into a silent, mischievous grin. "I bet we could get away with it," she says. No, they probably couldn't. Logical Zee knows that. Buzzed Zee likes the idea of the unnecessary challenge and the potential ability just to be able to say she pulled it off.
no subject
He chuckles low when she says they could get away with it. "Probably not but it sure would be fun to try." He's had quite a few beers so his decision making skills might be a little bit hindered, even if he's still completely in control of himself. He's buzzed too, although it's taken him a lot to get there. He isn't shit faced drunk just yet.
Everybody else seems to tip-toe around acting up here. They glance at cameras and worry about repercussions. Alcide isn't that guy, at least not yet. He isn't sure what a freakin' Computer could do to him that's worse than subduing the wolf parts of him. And if they tried anything worse than that, he'd fight them. So yeah he isn't too concerned about getting in trouble.
"Although maybe we should dance once or twice before we get ourselves kicked outta the place." He adds.
no subject
Zee's really glad she met him.
"You don't think?" she asks. "Maerc sffup etativel dna taolf pu ot ym moor," she says as she looks back at the cream puffs, willing them to levitate and float up to her room. For a moment, she's forgotten that she doesn't actually have her magic. When nothing happens, Zatanna's face falls. "Oh crap, I forgot...dangit," she complains.
Alcide suggests that they ought to dance and Zee looks back at him with her eyes wide. "Do you really think they would?" she asks, but she offers him her hand so that if he really thinks so, then he can lead her onto the dance floor and away from the buffet. No way does she want to get kicked out. "Can I take my drink?" she asks loftily and another giggle bubbles up. "It's so fruity, wanna try?" she asks, holding the glass up probably way higher than need be in an attempt to offer it to him.
no subject
"I really think they would." So Alcide smirks and shakes his head. "Don't worry. We'll stage a top secret theft operation before we high tail it outta dodge."
He takes her hand in his though, his large hand kind of swallowing hers, and nods. First dancing. "Danced with girls with drinks in their hand before. Bring it with you, partner in crime." On the dance floor, he puts a hand at her waist and keeps one of her hands in his while they dance. Alcide is an alright dancer. Not the best. Not the worst. He isn't a person who really cares what people think of him while he's dancing though. "I'm not sure fruity would mix well with the beer flavor I got goin' on in my mouth. It'd be like fruit beer and that just seems wrong."
no subject
Her hand feels so much smaller when it's in Alcide's and she's known he's a big guy, but that sort of seems to put it into perspective for her. For his intimidating size, Zee suspects that he's little more than a giant teddy bear. She could be wrong, but that's what she's gotten out of their interactions thus far and Zatanna adores him for it.
She gives a little facial shrug when he turns down the offer. "Hey, your loss," she points out, because she wholeheartedly believes it very well might be. This is the tastiest drink she's ever had. ...which is probably a bad thing, she'll realize in retrospect later, because she'll be drinking them like juice all night. Not a good plan. If nothing else, it's a reminder of how young she really is.
"Do you think they'll do stuff like this more often if people really like it?" she asks in a lofty tone before taking another drink that drains the glass. ...which now she just sort of has to hold while she's dancing; she really should've thought this through a little better. "I mean all the stupid propaganda says that we're supposed to be happy or whatever, right, so do you think seeing everyone is having a good time and enjoying themselves will give them a reason to do this again?"
She hopes so, anyway. This is the best night she's had since she's arrived.
no subject
"Pretty sure there's nothin' about tonight that's a loss. Except maybe that it's benefiting the Computer." Cause he's still not sure that this shindig is entirely on the up and up. He'll probably never trust the Computer. "Here with a pretty girl. There's alcohol and food. Not bein' auctioned off like a slab of meat. I'm good. Although I think I'm about to loosen this tie and take the jacket off." He's had enough to drink that he's perfectly warm. Usually Alcide runs very hot to the touch, it's a wolf thing. He hasn't had that problem since arriving here. This time, he's going to try to keep his clothes on for the most part. Losing the jacket and tie, not so scandalous.
They dance pretty well together if he were to be the judge, the both of them just having fun together. Her question leaves him wondering, of course. "We can hope." Although maybe not something you have to get this dressed up for. "Maybe they'll they'll let us start wearin' real clothes minus the fancy." That would make Alcide happy. At the same time, he bristles at the idea of having to be 'allowed' such simple things. Feels like a prison, and maybe tonight makes that even more apparent... their lack of basic freedoms.
"If they don't, we'll know for sure that all their propaganda is bullshit." Maybe he shouldn't curse, but... well, he's Alcide. And truthfully, he kind of expects it is bullshit. The Computer doesn't even know what happiness is, not real happiness. A computer can't feel. Can it?
no subject
When he mentions taking off his coat, Zatanna steps back. "Let's just find a place to put your jacket and my empty glass," she suggests. Then they can really dance and not be overheated and encumbered, respectively. "But um, yes please, with the real clothes. I feel like that would be so awesome. I never knew I could miss clothes so much. This prison garb thing has got to go. I look like a blob. We all look like blobs in those stupid things." Honestly. How is she supposed to impress Robin or make herself noticeable by any of the other cute guys in the Complex if she looks disgusting all the time?
"Well, I don't suspect change will happen overnight, but it sure would be nice. If there's a negative response to the suggestion that we need this sort of social interaction and time to let our hair down, then we know that yeah...the propaganda is just that."

And given her last (and only) experience with alcohol had been so negative, she doesn't make any move towards the drinks. That's fine; food temptation is bad enough.
When she notices Zatanna standing next to her, Katniss offers a small smile in greeting. She remembers how bubbly the girl had been the last time they had met and given that, she opts to leave it up to the other girl to start a conversation. It seems a lot easier than starting with a lame 'hi' again.
no subject
She notices Katniss belatedly and catches the smile, quickly returning it. It's good to see her and, Zee can't help noticing, at the buffet for that matter. Considering the last time they talked, seeing her near the food makes Zatanna weirdly happy. She doesn't even really know this girl.
"Hey, you're eating again!" she chirps happily. The words are followed immediately by a little hiccup. Seriously, she needs to slow down on the fruity cocktail beverages.
no subject
"I tried a little of it," she answers a little awkwardly. It's not quite a lie. She had a bite of a Swedish meatball a little bit earlier. Zatanna seems just as bit as bubbly as she had during lunch. There are a lot of people like that here, aren't there?
no subject
"Did you like it...?" she tries gently.
no subject
If Katniss knew what Zatanna was thinking, she'd laugh. And then probably call the other girl insane.
"I do." Katniss' lips twitch into a slight frown as she watches Zatanna. Admitting her paranoia isn't something Katniss is comfortable in doing but she's already discussed it once with the girl, hasn't she? "I don't want to take the chance this is drugged too."
no subject
But the other girl continues and Zatanna smiles a little. "Katniss..." she says gently, gesturing with one hand. "Look at all the green and blue and purple dresses and suits in this room. I think the drugs are just for us because being RED is so crappy. There's too much food and too many upper clearance people in here, I think it's probably safe. Plus, I've been eating it and I feel fine," she points out. She gives Katniss an empathetic look because she knows where the paranoia stems and she can't really blame the other girl for being cautious, after all.
"I think if there was one time when the food is probably clean...it's now. So maybe you should stock up, you know? While you can..."
no subject
Rather than answering, Katniss remains silent. She's too busy scanning the crowd for one of those upper clearance people. When she finally spots a green going for a nearby plate of vegetables (albeit not her favorite but Katniss learned a long time ago not to be picky about food), she makes a mental note of the plate. If she keeps this up, she might have a decent meal for the first time in a while. Although. "What have you eaten tonight?"
no subject
If she's right, then Katniss wants to stick to eating the things that she's seeing upper clearance levels eat or things that people she knows have eaten and have received no strange effects from having done so, so Zatanna tries to remember everything she's eaten tonight so far.
"Um...let's see, oh! I had some of that chicken thing next to the cheese tray. And then some cream puffs," she finishes with a smile.

Charity Ball
Gracie has spent a good deal of the evening dancing with Cisco, but she's also eaten a good deal of food and browsed through the items on auction. All in all, she's having a great time.
no subject
Her face lights up at the arrival of the other girl. "Hi, yeah! I know you, you're the girl on the thing!" she squeals happily, just making the assumption that Gracie will know exactly what she's talking about. Of course, she's referring to the few videos she's seen on the PDC that Gracie has put out, but she hasn't managed to say so all that eloquently. "Al's the best," she adds.
Belatedly, as Zatanna opens her mouth to ask the girl's name, she processes the compliment and backtracks her line of thought. "Oh thank you! I love yours, too! Literally, I would wear this every day if it meant no jumpsuit, that thing is so big on me, I look super gross in it. Hi, I don't know your name, though," she says and if a couple of words sort of slur together, then it's probably the pink beverage in her hand that's to blame.
no subject
Gracie laughs a little at the greeting. "I am the girl on the thing." She's happy to be recognized for her videos and she's amused at Zatanna in general. It's pretty obvious she's drunk. "He's been really nice to me,' she says in agreement.
"Oh! Sorry. I'm Gracie," she introduces herself. "I don't get dressed up much, but I hate the jumpsuits too. I'd rather wear fancy clothes too."
no subject
Gracie introduces herself and Zee smiles. "Nice to meet you. Same here, I never dress up, but I'd rather dress up than wear that ugly thing. It doesn't even fit. Are you having fun?"
no subject
At Zee's question, a bright smile spreads over Gracie's lips. "I'm having so much fun. I think we should definitely have more things like this."
no subject
"I'm having — hic — so much here, I hope they do this every day," she slurs a little with a huge grin. She knows that's an exaggeration of a possibility. Even if they did this more often, every day would be a bit much. She's liking the way she feels after drinking some alcohol and filling her stomach with actual food; she's loving the way she feels like a girl finally, now that she can wear a dress. While she'd never really been a big fan of dresses and skirts back home, it's still nice. It's like making up for the fugly jumpsuits that don't fit her at all which she's been stuck wearing all this time.
"You have really pretty hair," she says suddenly, reaching toward Gracie to touch a lock of it, curling it around her forefinger briefly before realizing belatedly that she's invading someone else's space, and she takes her hand back to herself, cheeks going a bit pink and shoulders and chest wracking with another hiccup mid word. "Sor—hic—sorry."
no subject
Gracie laughs at that. "At least monthly would be nice." She wouldn't mind getting dressed up and having fun like this more often. She likes feeling like a girl as well and of course the food is amazing. She'd almost forgotten what real food tasted like. It would also help everyone keep some weight on. Gracie knows she's lost weight she didn't need to lose because of the soylent.
The compliment makes Gracie beam. "No, it's totally okay," she tells the girl quickly. "And thank you. I like yours though. It's so shiny."
no subject
The food is probably the biggest benefit of this thing. The dress had been the draw. Zatanna doesn't really like wearing dresses, but it feels a lot nicer to be wearing a dress than a jumpsuit, she'll admit that easily. She'd rather just put on a pair of jeans, but baby steps, she guesses. It's the little things in life, right?
She's glad that Gracie doesn't take offense to being touched without permission and Zee blushes a little at the returned compliment. "Thank you," she says quietly before hiccuping again. "It usually looks nicer like this all the time back home, but this is because I stopped at Lydia's thing before coming here," she admits, suggesting that her hair never looks this nice here in the Alpha Complex, because she never really puts in the effort. Even if she did, it's not like she's got the tools she had back home. There are no flat irons or frizz serum here.
