Daycycle 105 [ August 28 - September 03]

daycycle 105

[Aug 28 - Sept 3]

Early Morning [0800 - 0900]All Troubleshooters Report for Duty
Felicity Smoak and Natasha Romanoff, have been selected for today’s mission. Details are below:

‘In order to help us improve our combat simulators, you will need to run through any combat situation you encounter at least three times. On the second pass through, engage the combat at a greater range than originally. On the third pass through, attempt it at a much closer range. You will provide tactical notes to our staff afterwards. If the simulators catch fire, or fail to respond to override commands... note that too. The eggheads were supposed to have fixed that.’

Please debrief the computer on the status of your mission by the end of the Daycycle here.

Morning & Afternoon [0900 - 1600]Service Firm Positions
All Troubleshooters not assigned a mission should report to their Service Firm for their daily duties, unless specifically assigned a different shift.

Evening [1600 - 2200]Citizen Improvement
All Alpha citizens are encouraged to better themselves through Alpha’s wide variety of educational, entertainment and cultural opportunities offered each evening. Attending these sanctioned events are not mandatory, but is highly encouraged by The Computer. Citizens choosing not to take advantage of these opportunities, have a growing number of other options available to them in how to spend their hard earned credits and free time.

Tonight’s event will be at 1700 in Hangar 15, Armed Forces Sector and will be hosted by the Alpha Complex Dogeball Association. Join us for a game of Alpha Dodgeball! All clearance levels above INFRARED welcome.

Alpha Curfew Restrictions
All Alpha citizens should be in their quarters within the Wagon Wheel by 2200, unless they’ve been given permission from a GREEN or higher clearance level citizen. Sleeping Aid gas is dispelled each night in the Wagon Wheel at 2200 to assist citizens in getting a productive sleeping period.

Confession Booths
There are hundreds of confession booths available around Alpha Complex if a citizen would like to communicate directly with the computer. Please use these confession booths to report mission statuses, report treason or terrorist acts, unregistered mutants, confess your trespasses against Alpha Complex, request propaganda or speak with Your Friend, The Computer, at any time.

Caitlin's mind felt like a disjointed jumble. If she wasn't already accustomed to believing in the impossible (given that it's scientifically feasible, of course), she'd probably feel much worse. Or, maybe she'd feel better. Maybe she would just swallow the tripe they fed her wholesale like she pretended she had.

There were a few things she knew for sure. One, she would likely be alone here because that was her luck. She would never be lucky enough to have even one familiar face here with her. Two, wherever she really was, she needed to find a way out and a way back to Central City. Without Barry, she wasn't sure how much of a chance she, Cisco, and Harry had of surviving Zoom and his minions, but they were resourceful. They could try to find a way.

And three, she wasn't quite sure she should be relieved to be free of Zoom right now. She might have just gone from the fryng pan to the fire.

But that would all be contemplated later. Right now, she was signing more paperwork than she had when she got the job at STAR Labs and being handed things. She managed to bundle everything together once they started shooing her along. Someone pointed out the man that would be giving her a tour, and she pulled up short once she laid eyes on him.

Light hair, light eyes, tall, broad shoulders. He had a similar build as Jay did, similar features. But Jay wouldn't smile at her like that. No, Jay's expressions had a manic touch to them now, smirking more often than not.

With a steadying breath, she crossed the room, clutching her things to her chest. "I guess you're who I'm supposed to meet? I'm Caitlin. Caitlin Snow."

"Ma'am," he says, nodding his head when she gets close enough. "Nice to meet you Caitlin. Steve Rogers. And do you-" He gestures to her equipment. "-need help carrying anything?"

They really should provide a backpack or something to go along with the orientation. Steve makes a mental note to ask someone in Technical Services about it later.

"You must also have a lot of questions. I certainly did when I came out of that room. I'm here to answer the ones I can, and to show you around the Complex, if you'd like."

Steve gestures towards the large double doors behind him.

Ma'am. He must be an old-fashioned sort. Or she came out of all of this looking a lot older than she last remembered. Considering she did get a glimpse of her reflection, she's going to opt for the former over the latter. Her arms press the bundle closer to her chest as she shakes her head. "I'm good. It's not that heavy or cumbersome."

She takes another moment to glance over him. The resemblance is somewhat remarkable, but now that she's over the initial shock, she can pick out the many differences: his voice, the shade of blond of his hair, the blue of his eyes, how he carries himself. If she focuses on those, she can avoid mistaking him again.

"That would be nice. Showing me around, I mean. From how they talked, it sounds like it would be easy to get lost in this place."

Rest assured Caitlin, it’s not your age. She’ll hear him calling everyone ma’am soon enough.

“For an underground city, this place is a lot bigger than I originally thought.” Steve grins as he leads her out the doors. Caitlin will notice that the landscape doesn't change much, and they haven't actually gone outdoors. Instead, they're in a large, septic white complex. "Welcome to the Technical Services Section," he says. "This is where cloning and medical services take place. This also happens to be where the automobile garages are."

If she has questions at anytime, he’s happy to answer them as they come up. In between questions and as they walk, Steve explains Alpha's geography. The northern edge is the Armed Services Sector, which houses Alpha's armory, training facilities and military. In the eastern edge is Research and Development. And to the south is the Power Services sector, which houses the machinery that keeps the Complex running.

Which brings Steve to the last main building of interest.

“But the Wagon Wheel is at the center of it all. That’s where we’re headed now. It's where most of us live and where your room will be. The Computer has probably already assigned you a job. Tomorrow morning, you’ll find out what that is."

By the time he's done, they've walked down one of the main halls and out onto what actually feels like a street. Though if Caitlin looks up and pays close enough attention, she'll be able to tell that the night sky isn't quite real.

"Subsectors like this are between each of the main sectors. Come, we'll walk this way."

The street is a lot busier and there are a lot more people here in the evening. It feels a lot like New York or Hong Kong with how much bustle is going on. Bright lights are flashing off buildings, advertising Bouncy Bubble Beverages.

Caitlin's a bit slow to ask questions. Not that she's hesitant or worried that he'll find a question silly; it's more that she's focused on absorbing what he's saying, filing information away in her mind. She's quick on the uptake, having been a sponge her whole life (or her whole previous life, if there's some ring of truth to the cloning story) and soaking up what she can where and when she can. It helps that everything is pretty much what it says on the tin: armed services, power services.

It's efficient, at least.

When they step out into the "street," the sudden influx of stimuli is overwhelming. There's lights and crowds, and with crowds come that ever-present dull roar of chatter. For a moment, she worries that she's going to get swept up and swept away. Her hand reaches out, coming just short of grabbing Steve's arm before she lets it fall to her side.

"Is it always this busy?" Central City may have its moments, sure, but it falls far short of being anything like New York. It's the Midwest version of a big city.

She catches a bright blue flash of light in her peripheral vision. Her head snaps in its direction, her heart instantly set to racing as she sees — or would swear she sees — Zoom. But it's nothing. No one. Just an advertisement.

He notices.

About half the time he wouldn’t have, because he’s usually facing forwards when he leads orientations. But today, when Steve opened the doors out to the subsector streets, he’d just turned his head around to make sure that Caitlin followed him out okay. So he sees her hand reaching out, and then fall to her side.

Maybe if her welcomer had been someone else, things would be different. But Steve was old-fashioned. If a dame reached for his arm, he can’t just keep her hanging.

So he walks back to her until he’s at her side, and he offers his arm.

“I’m afraid so. We’re underground, so expansion, as I’ve been told, is more difficult than normal.” Something about how they’d have to dig and make sure they don’t break anything structural and collapse the whole thing. But Steve hadn’t really investigated that area of the Complex.
