Daycycle 105 [ August 28 - September 03]
daycycle 105
[Aug 28 - Sept 3]
Early Morning [0800 - 0900] — All Troubleshooters Report for Duty
Felicity Smoak and Natasha Romanoff, have been selected for today’s mission. Details are below:
‘In order to help us improve our combat simulators, you will need to run through any combat situation you encounter at least three times. On the second pass through, engage the combat at a greater range than originally. On the third pass through, attempt it at a much closer range. You will provide tactical notes to our staff afterwards. If the simulators catch fire, or fail to respond to override commands... note that too. The eggheads were supposed to have fixed that.’
Please debrief the computer on the status of your mission by the end of the Daycycle here.
Morning & Afternoon [0900 - 1600] — Service Firm Positions
All Troubleshooters not assigned a mission should report to their Service Firm for their daily duties, unless specifically assigned a different shift.
Evening [1600 - 2200] — Citizen Improvement
All Alpha citizens are encouraged to better themselves through Alpha’s wide variety of educational, entertainment and cultural opportunities offered each evening. Attending these sanctioned events are not mandatory, but is highly encouraged by The Computer. Citizens choosing not to take advantage of these opportunities, have a growing number of other options available to them in how to spend their hard earned credits and free time.
Tonight’s event will be at 1700 in Hangar 15, Armed Forces Sector and will be hosted by the Alpha Complex Dogeball Association. Join us for a game of Alpha Dodgeball! All clearance levels above INFRARED welcome.
Alpha Curfew Restrictions
All Alpha citizens should be in their quarters within the Wagon Wheel by 2200, unless they’ve been given permission from a GREEN or higher clearance level citizen. Sleeping Aid gas is dispelled each night in the Wagon Wheel at 2200 to assist citizens in getting a productive sleeping period.
Confession Booths
There are hundreds of confession booths available around Alpha Complex if a citizen would like to communicate directly with the computer. Please use these confession booths to report mission statuses, report treason or terrorist acts, unregistered mutants, confess your trespasses against Alpha Complex, request propaganda or speak with Your Friend, The Computer, at any time.

He flung the door open and then just stared at her for a moment. It wasn't really long, but it seemed like a lifetime. She was here. He still wasn't sure whether that was good or bad, at least not intellectually. His heart wanted to wrap her in his arms and never let her go.
He grabbed her by the wrist and tugged her in, shutting the door behind them. Maybe they were being spied on, but for the first time since he'd woken up, he didn't care.
He cupped her cheek with one hand and searched her face. "I heard your name called this morning. You're all right?"
no subject
“No. No no I-“ He was tugging her in and she followed. Felicity hadn't known if she would ever see Oliver again, much less be able to feel this hand on her arm. His grip felt strong and his hands were warm — he felt real.
When she spoke again her voice was frantic. Like Felicity couldn’t get the words out fast enough. “-No I’d asked Barry the day I woke up. I specifically asked him if there was anyone here other than him or Cisco and he- He told me there was no one. He told me that you weren’t here.“
Her eyes never left his as she talked. Even if Adam and Ronan were here, she wouldn’t have cared or even looked at them. Then she felt Oliver’s hand on her cheek — calloused, just like she remembered. This wasn’t some messed-up drug-induced dream.
Oliver was actually here.
“I’m okay,” she said, her voice still shaking a little. Felicity stared at him for just another second before flinging her arms around Oliver, pushing her face into his shoulder and squeezing her eyes closed. Her torso winced at the sudden pressure — her bruises, hidden beneath her jumpsuit, protested — but Felicity doesn’t pull away, she pulls him even closer.
“I'm okay now that you're here.” That time, she isn't talking about the mission anymore.
In this moment, Felicity wasn’t as selfless as Barry or Oliver. Both them probably wouldn’t wish Alpha on their worst enemies, much less the people they loved. But right now, as she held him and smelled him and felt him — the only thing Felicity felt was happiness and relief.
no subject
He wanted...he wanted to take off her shirt and see the extent of the damages. But that would probably get him a stern look unless her injuries were severe enough that she actually needed someone to look at them. But he still wanted to. He did have to admit that he found it a little unusual that she'd run up to him and hugged him, but he knew she still loved him. She just didn't trust him in the same way she had before.
Still, he was there and he took advantage of her shock to wrap his arms around her and hold her tightly.
"I just got in last night. I saw Barry for the first time this morning."
The last thing they needed was to start blaming each other for assumed slights. If they were going to survive this, they were going to do it together. Felicity had taught him that. And Barry.
He tucked his chin against her head. "How long have you been here? How long have you been going on these missions?"
no subject
So right now, when Felicity feels his arms wrap around her, for a second, her lower lip trembles. She's kept her head high for five consecutive days — acting stronger and tougher than she thought she ever could be in a world like this. She's had her guard up, trying to adjust, while also trying to make sure this place doesn't change the person she really is. But despite her best efforts, there has never been a minute here when Felicity felt truly safe. Until now.
She feels the tiny prickle of his chin against her forehead and the reassuring pressure of his arms around her body, and all Felicity can think about is how much she feels at home when she's with him. She loves Oliver so much that it hurts and she means to answer his questions — she really does. But instead, she tilts her head up and nuzzles her way past his neck and his chin, her nose brushing lightly over his cheek until her lips finds his.
no subject
But still, he told himself, this was probably just stress. An extreme situation. Old emotions could rear their heads during extreme moments. He eased the kiss gently and then pulled back and kissed her forehead. He didn't want to take advantage of her when she was upset, even if he dearly wanted to. And besides, this was neither the time nor the place for something like this. And if that was his excuse to be the gentleman he should be, so be it.
"Do you remember how you got here? What's the last thing you remember?" He murmured the words in her ear. If there were people overhearing, he didn't want them to hear this particular conversation. Not only was it private, it was something that could be used against them.
no subject
When she hears his words murmured next to her ear, Felicity leans her face gently against his cheek. "No," she whispers back. "I don't remember anything about how I got here. Five days ago, I was still in our house in Ivy Town, trying to figure out how to ..." She actually smiles a little at the thought. "...how to stop failing my omelettes."
Her chest rises as she breathes in.
"The next thing I know, I'm being told that everything I remembered was a glitch. That you were a glitch." She kisses him again, gently and just on the cheek this time.

If he were a different man, he might not tell her. He might let her think that they were still in the honeymoon phase of their relationship, when they thought they'd left the Arrow and all of its shackles behind. He might want to forget what had transpired between then and now.
But could he do that to Felicity? He'd promised her no more lies and even if she didn't remember the promise, he did. And there were the practical reasons. If other people showed up and remembered what had happened, she would have hard questions for him.
"That seems like a lifetime ago," he said softly. "But for me, it's been almost nine months." Did that mean that they'd been told the truth? Maybe, maybe not. He preferred to think not. But something was still wrong. Maybe he'd have another talk and get Barry's opinion on it. His was more the time travel and alternate realities existence.
But first he had to figure out what he was going to say to Felicity. He almost started a half dozen times, but really, he wasn't sure how to tell her. Ray, her back, his son, the breakup, Laurel. All of it. But especially their breakup. He'd barely managed the lost hope the first time and he wasn't sure he could bear it a second.
"There are things I need to tell you about what happened, but I need to do it in my own time." He needed to prepare himself for the fallout while he was already busy adjusting to this place. "And until I do, it's not fair to you for us to be together."
He took a breath. "I'm not even sure it's safe for anyone to be together in this place. There's too much about it I don't know." While the last was true, it was a bit of a copout, to give her a good reason that didn't involve his cowardice. He could face a lot of things, up to and including death, but this was harder than all of it.
no subject
It takes her a second as she tries to process the phrase 'it's been almost nine months,' but she can't. What was that supposed to mean? Her mind doesn't automatically go to things like time travel or the fact that she doesn't have the right memories, because normal people — smart, normal people don't jump to science fiction when someone tells them something that happened five days ago was actually nine months ago.
"Wait- I don't understand. Oliver-"
Things he needed to tell her about what happened. What did happen? She barely has time to try understanding it again before she hears the sentence that makes her entire body tense.
It's not fair to you for us to be together.
He says something else after that, but she only pays enough attention to know that it wasn't But, I want to stay together anyways. She pulls away, shocked and confused, but most of all hurt in a way that she can't explain because she still doesn't know what's going on.
"Oliver, what do you mean it's been nine months-" When she gets the full question out this time, she realizes, finally, what he actually said. "-for you." No no no no no. "Ivy Town was ... nine months ago, for you?"
no subject
"I didn't expect you not to know." Who could have expected more than half a year of missing memories? How could he deal with the fact that she didn't know and that he could choose to tell her things in a better way this time around, but that the first time around, she'd made a very lasting decision. What would it mean if she remembered down the road?
"Maybe Barry can explain it better than I can."
He preferred not to and instead deal with what was right in front of him. Unfortunately, the thing right in front of him was Felicity who thought they were still together.
He hadn't even proposed to her yet.
no subject
Truth is, she was already starting to believe that they were all clones anyways. Yesterday, she'd found out that an Arthurian legend was living among them. A woman who should have lived thousands of years before Felicity was living and breathing now. If they weren’t all clones … she has no other way of explaining that.
So slowly, she nods. Okay then, he has more memories than she did. Memories that the Computer purposefully taken away or stupidly forgot to give her. Either way, she wants so badly to remember.
“If things happened that are hard to talk about- I can understand if you don’t want to tell me right away. But-“ Without even knowing it, she sucks her lower lip in when she pauses. “I can’t understand why-“ A beat. “Why can’t we be together?”
When she looks at him this time, she wants answers. “Why can’t we face it, together?”
And as soon as she asks that question, she feels her heart drop. There was only one reasonable answer she could think of to that question. “Oliver … do we-“
no subject
It wasn't the answer to the question she couldn't quite bring herself to ask, but he really hoped that she didn't finish asking it. He knew he was walking that thin edge where he was misleading her but not quite actively lying to her and the guilty part of his conscience reminded him that Felicity wouldn't have seen a difference.
He took her hand, raised it to his lips, and kissed it. "A lot of things happened when we went back to Star City and I don't know how I'm going to tell you about half of them." And for the first time since she'd mentioned Ivy Town, he wasn't only talking about their relationship or even about his son. There was Ray and her back and her father and her company. And Laurel.
"Our relationship for me is built on all these things that you don't know and it's not fair to either of us if I were to pretend that we were still living that suburban life where we grilled with the neighbors. I'm just asking that you give me time to tell you."
He took her face in his hands. "I know that it sounds like I'm breaking up with you, but I can promise that my feelings for you haven't changed. I still love you. Can you trust me for a little while?"
no subject
She tightens her grip on his hand. "I love you, Oliver. And if like you said, we're still together-" Her eyes are full of love and hope for him. "-and you still love me, then- What are you asking me to do?" Her voice is quiet and her lips curl into a small, empathetic smile. "Of course I'm willing to trust you. But darling-" It feels good to say that again. "-if you aren't breaking up with me, then- what's- What's happening right now?" Her other hand reaches for his face again, and if he lets her, she runs the back of her fingers against his cheek before cupping his jaw.
If Oliver lets her keep this line of reasoning and Felicity recovers her memories one day, this was surely all going to cost Oliver something. Not their entire relationship — probably — but now that she's made it clear how she's interpreted his answer, the real question was, would he allow that interpretation to solidify?
no subject
He flicked a significant glance at the camera and lowered his voice.
"And that's before worrying about what's safe."
His roommates, at least, had seemed intent on hiding their relationship. Whether that was pure paranoia or for a good reason was anyone's guess, but it was in Oliver's nature to be cautious. He wasn't going to show off any relationship in public without knowing that it wouldn't come back to him. Come back to Felicity.
"So I suppose I'm asking you to wait. Until we both settle in and figure out what we can show to the public. Until I can figure out how to tell you what needs to be said. Can we go back to that place where we were friends?" His face softened almost imperceptibly because he knew that during the time he was asking her to rewind their relationship to, they hadn't been friends. Or at least, they hadn't been just friends. They'd been people who'd loved each other and hadn't been able to say the words.
no subject
The only time they remotely needed her acting skills was when Oliver took her to his mansion and told her that Slade had taken ‘the wrong woman.’ Everything about that moment had felt so real, even if Felicity knew that it wasn’t, because by then she’d wanted to hear those words for so long that she didn’t even have to act. The shock on her face was real.
But she’s also processing what he’s telling her now. Nine months is a long time, she knows that. A lot has happened in the last nine months she does remember, Felicity knows that too. Oliver says he needs time. Okay, that’s reasonable.
But Oliver also says he wants to go back to that place where they were just friends.
It’s involuntary, the twisting type of pain that was in her chest right now. A part of her subconscious has already figured out that something terrible must have happened in those months she can’t remember, something that would change her mind about whether she wants to stay together. But the confusing part was that Oliver just told her that she does choose to stay with him. And if she chooses him once, why wouldn’t she choose him again?
But Felicity doesn’t push. She’s waited for him before. Last time, she’d decided that enough was enough. But this time things are different, at least that’s what she’s telling herself. Unlike before, Oliver wasn’t telling her that they could never be together and she wasn’t waiting for something that would never come.
He just needs time, she repeats to herself. All he’s asking for is time.
So she let’s go. Felicity takes a step back, her hands running down Oliver’s arms as she moves, her fingers lingering on his hands before she retracts herself completely away from him.
“I’ll wait.” She doesn’t really try to hide the painful expression on her face. “Because I love you, and because I know there’s a lot going on.” She swallows. “But Oliver. Just know that I can’t-“ She doesn’t even want to say it, but Felicity knows she has to. She has to say this right now otherwise she won’t forgive herself later.
“I can’t … wait forever. I can’t go back to feeling that way about us. Like … we love each other but we’ll never be together.”
no subject
"I won't make you wait forever," he promised. "I don't think I could wait that long." Laurel had it right, much as it pained him. Felicity was the love of his life. But the problem was that he wanted to be true to what she'd been through. As much as he might want to sugarcoat what had happened, she deserved the truth, even the ugly parts. He just had to come up with a way to tell it to her without making it sound either worse or better than it actually was, much as he might be tempted to make it sound better.
"For now, I'm just glad you're all right. When I heard your name...I was terrified that I was going to find you here only to lose you before I'd even had a chance to see you."
And now that he had seen her, that was never going to happen again. He was going to make sure of it. He wasn't sure how, yet, but now he had at least one concrete mission. Perversely, he felt a little better for it. His life tended to function better when he had a goal in mind.

“The Special who was assigned the mission with me — Natasha Romanoff — she taught me how to use my gun. And how to shoot robots from a distance.”
Her smile widens at the memory. “I think she might have saved my life twice this morning.”
So there had been danger, but Felicity wasn’t going to worry Oliver more by telling him about how the droid had caught on fire just a few feet away from her, while it was coming right at her. She also wasn’t about to tell him about the time she just stayed curled up on the floor, refusing to get up until Natasha shot the droid in the head. She wasn’t exactly proud of that moment, or how terrified she’d been.
But it was over now. She was okay. She’d learned a lot. And she doesn’t want Oliver to worry. Felicity has the urge to kiss him again, and she’s already started pushing herself up with her toes before she remembers. Her lips flatten to a line and she lets her body rest back down, flat on the ground.
no subject
“Then I might have to thank her.” There was definitely an anger to his eyes that spoke to how he viewed what Felicity’d had to go through. It was madness. If a computer was in change, it would supposedly have to think logically and logic said that a computer hacker was not the best person to go through what Felicity had. She had neither the expertise nor training to either deal with it or evaluate what she’d been through. Could there be a mad computer?
“I don’t suppose you were given any forewarning of what was going to happen?” If she had been, maybe he could prepare her for specifics if (when) it happened again. It she hadn’t, then he was just going to have to train her himself. Turn her into something neither of them wanted her to be.
no subject
But when Oliver asks if she got any forewarning, Felicity laughs. Not at him, but at how ridiculous the idea is. She shakes her head.
“We find out every morning whether we’ve been picked for a mission. That was my first time. I hear other people sometimes get called up a lot more often.”
She likes the way his shoulders feel underneath her fingers. Oliver’s shoulder also felt so strong, like they were capable of carrying the weight of the world. Even if she doesn’t want him to sometimes. Her mind wanders again, as she thinks about unzipping his jumpsuit just a little, so she can slip her hands in and onto his actually shoulders. But she isn’t allowed to anymore.
“Oliver.” She glances downwards. “I know I shouldn’t have to ask. But. What kind of boundaries do you need right now? If we’re-” She clears her throat as her eyes look back at him. “-friends. Is this okay?”
Her hands just being there. Being in contact with his body. It’s certainly not how friends normally behave.
no subject
“You’re assuming I could stop you,” he answered with a bit of a smile. “You always manage to get your way and I always let you.”
He supposed that it would be a powerful incentive to work up the courage to tell her everything that had happened. If he kept having almost what he wanted but never quite enough, he’d want either more or an end to it, either way.
“But yes. It’s okay. I know what I’m putting you through isn’t easy and I wish there were a better way.”
He took a deep breath. “But why don’t we sit down and you tell me everything you’ve been through since you got here?”
no subject
There’s a part of Felicity that really does want to ask Oliver if they could kiss one last time. Because the last two times, she’d hadn’t known it would be the last time. Five days ago, she woke up in Alpha without him. Three days ago, she’d gotten over the shock of being in a new place, and she’d spent a lot of time that day trying to remember how Oliver felt.
A few minutes ago, she’d kissed him and felt him bring it to an end. She wants the chance to etch a kiss into memory. Because frankly, she doesn’t know how long it would take Ollie in the end. Anywhere from a few days to a few weeks would be reasonable. Felicity already knows she’d wait.
But she feels like the moment is over. He’s already prepared himself mentally for the boundaries to start and she doesn’t want to ruin that — for him, or for herself. Because if she asks for one more kiss, and he says yes, what’s next? If she knows herself, Felicity knows that she won’t want to stop there.
There was a lot more things about Oliver that she wants to commit to memory.
Better stop now before she does something neither of them can take back.
He tells her that it’s okay for her hands to be there, and he wants to know what’s been happening since she arrived. Wherever he wants to sit in this room, she’s happy to follow.
“I’ve only been here for five days,” she says, no longer remembering if she’s told him that already. “I-” Felicity thinks back, “I won a chess tournament.” There’s a brightness in her eyes when she says that. “And the day after I went to someone’s birthday party.” Real interesting, right Ollie? Conveniently, she leaves out the part where she’s met a lot of guys. A surprisingly high number, given how she’s only been here for five days.
But she wets her lips and prepares to tell him the things that aren’t so positive. Felicity leans in close to his ear and whispers, “Barry and Cisco and Ray are here. Barry doesn’t have his speed anymore. Ray’s being held prisoner somewhere in IntSec. We want to break him out, but we need more information.”
no subject
Still, that didn’t mean he was prepared to leave Ray out in the cold, especially not in a place like this. He wasn’t prepared to leave anyone here, especially not the people he knew.
“We’ll get him out,” he promised. “Any idea why Barry doesn’t have his speed?” Because even if they were what they were told they were - clones - shouldn’t the cloning process have simply duplicated them? The idea that they might be themselves but different didn’t sit well with him. It was too close to those glitches he’d been told about.
no subject
She wonders though, if it’s a good idea to sit in his room whispering, but Felicity’s nearly certain that the audio capabilities of the cameras aren’t that good. So as long as they stay close, and keep their voices low, the only thing that the camera will pick up on is the fact that they’re talking — just not about what they’re saying.
“I don’t think even Barry knows the answer to that question. But Ray left some tech behind that might help him recover it. Barry was going to show me sometime. I think I might be able to make it work.”
no subject
“Whatever happens, we’ll get out of this. All of us.” He had to believe that. He had to trust that there was a way out. Maybe not today and maybe not tomorrow, but this wasn’t going to be their life forever after. And even if this time and place was not the one they’d come from, they’d find a way to make this a better place.
If there was no city to save, he’d just have to save the complex. But first they had to find out what was true and what was a lie.
