Daycycle 101 [ July 31 - August 6 ]
daycycle 101
[July 31 - Aug 6]
Early Morning [0800 - 0900] — All Troubleshooters Report for Duty
Adam Parrish and Matt Murdock, have been selected for today’s mission. Details are below:
"We’ve repainted this antique autocar for its VIOLET owner, and we need someone to drive it back to its owner’s compound. Take one of these single-use brevet badges to demonstrate you’re authorized to use such high-clearance equipment. Whatever you do, don’t lose your badge! And whatever happens, don’t get into an accident! If you so much as scratch the paint job....
Maybe don't let the blind guy drive."
Please debrief the computer on the status of your mission by the end of the Daycycle here.
Morning & Afternoon [0900 - 1600] — Service Firm Positions
All Troubleshooters not assigned a mission should report to their Service Firm for their daily duties, unless specifically assigned a different shift.
Evening [1600 - 2200] — Citizen Improvement
All Alpha citizens are encouraged to better themselves through Alpha’s wide variety of educational, entertainment and cultural opportunities offered each evening. Attending these sanctioned events are not mandatory, but is highly encouraged by The Computer. Citizens choosing not to take advantage of these opportunities, have a growing number of other options available to them in how to spend their hard earned credits and free time.
Tonight’s event will be at 1800 in Field A, Armed Forces Sector and will be hosted by the Extra Calisthenics Volunteer Group. Join ECV for a four hour boot camp designed to get you in peak physical shape or kill you trying!
Alpha Curfew Restrictions
All Alpha citizens should be in their quarters within the Wagon Wheel by 2200, unless they’ve been given permission from a GREEN or higher clearance level citizen. Sleeping Aid gas is dispelled each night in the Wagon Wheel at 2200 to assist citizens in getting a productive sleeping period.
Confession Booths
There are hundreds of confession booths available around Alpha Complex if a citizen would like to communicate directly with the computer. Please use these confession booths to report mission statuses, report treason or terrorist acts, unregistered mutants, confess your trespasses against Alpha Complex, request propaganda or speak with Your Friend, The Computer, at any time.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst, right? Right.
He slows even more, approaching the guy who looks like he might have been directed to the kids table when he's a fully grown adult. Great. "Uhm. Hey. I'm Adam. Parrish. Are you Matt?"
no subject
Hey now. He hasn't had to sit at the kids table since he graduated high school. Matt nods and extends his hand to shake Adam's. "I am. It's nice to meet you, Adam."
no subject
Adam gets that there's something different about Matt, but he can't quite put his finger on it just yet. You don't just assume that a person is blind at first glance, after all. It's not the first thought that occurs to you. He just sees that there's something out of the ordinary. Adam is thankful that his Magician status isn't all that obvious.
"At least I'm good with cars if we break down." He wants Matt to know that just cause he's so young, he's not useless. Adam Parrish: always trying to prove his worth.
no subject
True enough, especially here where no one else has any disabilities. Matt doesn't mind and even with his supernatural abilities (which he doesn't have here) he probably wouldn't know what Adam is, but he might notice something different about him.
"Yeah?" Matt says as he takes out his white cane and unfolds it. "That's fortunate because I've never even owned a car. I live in New York City and I've been blind since I was nine."
no subject
"Guess I better do the driving." He deadpans. Really, it was meant to be a joke. But Adam Parrish has never been very good at anything except reacting to jokes.
He picks up the security clearance cards and has an awful, terrible thought. He could use this to get into a lot of places, not just to take this car back to the VIOLET owner. His mind starts turning. He glances at Matt. He probably can't do that with Matt here.
"What's your clearance level?" He asks.
no subject
Matt smirks at that, appreciating the sense of humor. "It might be for the best. I can't promise I wouldn't drive us into a wall."
Those cards would be excellent for all sorts of things. They'd open doors that neither of them can imagine opening and Matt won't see anything, nor will he say anything should he notice that Adam is taking a roundabout way to delivering the car.
"Yellow," Matt responds. "Yours? And I hear we're going to brand new levels that neither of us have seen. That should be enlightening."
Maybe that'll set Adam at ease a bit.
no subject
"Red." He says. He's been red since he arrived. He'll probably always be a red with as much trouble as he gets in with the computer.
Adam listens to the way Matt says enlightening and hesitates a moment. "Yeah. I figure we might... drive slow, if you're okay with that."
He hesitates to ask, but decides it might be necessary to know how well Matt can get around. "Need help finding the passenger side?" Really, he's not trying to be offensive, but he's also excited to get going.
no subject
He appears to be on the straight and narrow. He's really trying to help people from within the system, trying to make sure that those that go up for treason aren't charged for it or don't get harsh punishments. Some days he feels like he's making a difference and others, he thinks no one can make a difference.
Matt nods a little, unsurprised. Most of the specials are red. It also makes sense why they've put someone witha higher level on this mission with Adam despite the fact that Matt has no experience with vehicles at all, unless one counts nearly being hit by one.
"A leisurely drive sounds like the perfect way to spend a morning. You'll have to describe anything interesting we happen upon." He's definitely not going to have to tread carefully with Matt.
"I'm actually pretty handy with this thing," he says gesturing with his cane. "I appreciate the offer though." And with that, he turns, reaching out a hand to get his bearings and moving toward the passenger side of the vehicle. He finds his way easy enough with the aid of his cane and by touch, assuming the vehicle is modeled after American cars and has the passenger side on the right.
no subject
Adam goes a normal pace getting out of the sector they're all accustomed to. He glances over to Matt, wondering if he should make small talk. Gansey would have made small talk. Ronan would have told this guy to fuck off, taken the car for a joy ride.
He has a moment where he wishes Ronan were here. Ronan would love driving this thing.
"So what kind of work do they have you doing here?" He's genuinely curious about that. So it's less small talk, less like Gansey.
no subject
Small talk isn't terribly necessary. Matt is busy trying to figure out Adam. He knows that most Reds aren't content with their lot, but whether Adam is one that will give up everyone and everything in order to get ahead is something that Matt doesn't know just yet.
He's about to jump into small talk when Adam says something. "I'm in legal, actually. Back home I'm a lawyer and I guess they decided my skills would be best put to use there. I represent the people that come up on charges. I try to negotiate punishments and that sort of thing so that everyone is happy." He sounds weary when he says that. He's trying to do something good here and it's not an easy job. "You mentioned you were good with cars. You work in the mechanical department then?"
no subject
"As happy as you can be with a punishment." Adam deadpans. "I've been given those pills a few times and they're punishment enough."
The vehicle slows a bit once they get outside of their sector. Adam starts looking around, eyeing buildings he's broken into or wanted to break into. "Yeah I work on most of the motorized transport. Back home I worked at a garage, among other things, to pay for school."
no subject
He nods a little. "Something like that." He turns his head toward Adam. "I've heard about the pills, but I haven't experienced them. What sort of effects do they have?"
Matt recognizes that the car slows a bit. He's listening and occasionally he sniffs the air a bit, trying to see if he smells anything different or unusual about this place. It smells a little cleaner some how. "It seems like they at least try to match people up with jobs they like and are good at. The problem, at least for me, is that the job differs so much here from home."
no subject
This is a test, really. To see what Matt has to say about the people he has to defend here. If Adam ever ends up needing Matt's help, he wants to know who he's working with.
no subject
Did he pass?
no subject
"I tend to get in trouble a lot. I might need you sometime." It isn't that he's doing anything horrible. He's just... exploring, asking too many questions, breaking and entering so that he knows where and how things work around here.
Honestly, he's looking for the main computer center. But that's something he hasn't even told Ronan because he worries Ronan might dissuade him from it. If they could destroy that though... or at least hack in and get control over it, just think of the possibilities.
no subject
No, and without his preternatural senses, he can't smell, hear or sense it either. He's truly blind here and he hates that part of things. There's a lot to hate about this place, but that one tops his list. He does, at least, know they're going slow and from the things Adam has said he can, at least, infer that Adam is giving the landscape a good examination.
Matt nods a little at Adam's confession. "I'm in the legal office every day. Don't come and see me if you're planning anything," he teases a little. "I'll help in any way I can though."
Matt wouldn't dissuade him from it, but he'd caution him and he'd make certain that he was as safe as he could be. Speaking of, he hesitates a moment. "There's a specials headquarters, you know. A place the computer can't see. People might be able to help you out there." And even if they can't, it's nice to have a place they don't have to watch their every word and action. "I'll show you after this mission if you like. Of course, you have to keep it secret."
no subject
Adam has learned that it's best to jump in head first. That's why the trouble he gets in is less secret society and more obvious. Because the things he does are more obvious for the afore mentioned reasons.
While he's heard about the 'specials headquarters', he's never thought to look into it because the specials aren't the problem. The computer is. The people who blindly do as the computer says are the problem. But he does see the benefit in knowing the where's and why's and hoe's of the headquarters.
"That'd be cool. Thanks." He says, deciding right then that he won't do anything stupid on this mission because he doesn't want to get an innocent bystander like Matt in trouble. Ronan going along with him knowing that they might get into trouble is one thing. Matt actually has a legit job here and seems nice enough.
With this line of thinking, Adam accelerates a bit. "Do you have people here from your home?"
no subject
Matt doesn't care so much if he gets in trouble, but if he knows about anyone's plans before when he defends them then it becomes a premeditated thing and that's a bigger problem. Honestly, he's trying to protect Adam more than anything.
In contrast, Matt generally plans things. He likes to know background information and what he's jumping into. It helps him get out of trouble when he needs to and hopefully, helps him avoid being caught in the first place. It worked for him back home and he's tried to apply the same logic to this place despite the differences.
It's more a little slice of freedom and knowing who you can count on than anything, but he knows that the specials are also trying to figure this place out and potentially dupe the computer. Some of them are duping the computer, but he doesn't say that.
He nods a little. "It's a good idea for us all to stick together." At least he thinks it is. If they are going to get in trouble, Matt would prefer Adam tell him so that they can plan something out and hopefully avoid trouble all together. He is trying to do a legit job. He's not sure that's possible given his own goals and the computer's goals.
He shakes his head at Adam's question. "No. It's just me. What about you?"
no subject
He has Ronan. Really, that's all he needs in any world. Without Ronan, he'd be a loner, even more so than he is now. He's not Gansey. He's not good at being fake for the sake of smoothing things over. And Adam's finally at a point where he can accept that about himself.
"I have two friends from home here." Although he hasn't seen much of Blue. She's here though. Somewhere. And if Adam really needed her, he's sure she'd be present. "I room with one of them." Ronan, his boyfriend.
"I guess with your clearance level, you don't have any roommates." He adds.
no subject
Acceptance of oneself is a powerful thing, a good thing.
Matt nods a little. "That's good, and fortunate."
As for his clearance level, he nods a bit. "Yeah. It's still sort of new. I shared a room with a couple of people before." One of them is now his girlfriend and their difference in clearance levels makes things difficult. "I still share a bathroom, but it's is nice to have the room to myself. Of course, our Friend Computer, is still always watching me."
no subject
"Computer can't always think of everything." He smirks. "It's not infallible, I mean."
Which he realizes is borderline treason to even say, so he casts Matt a nervous glance and tries to smooth things over. "It's the nature of all beasts. Everyone and everything is imperfect. We've all got weak spots."
no subject
He nods at Adam in agreement, but what he says is "I'm sure our Friend Computer is no ordinary computer." Which is true, but also appeases the computer if it is listening.
Matt gives him an 'ok' sign with one hand, sort of a way of letting him know that it's okay, he's just trying to be careful. "It's fortunate that we can work with--I mean on those weak spots. Citizen improvement and all that." Matt is so on the same page as Adam.
no subject
"Cool." Adam says simply, with a nod, to let Matt know he gets it.
They reach their destination and someone steps to the car and Adam flashes the badge. He's told to lead the vehicle into a loading bay for an impressive garage, a garage he's never been in before. The space is large with many, many vehicles in it. Workers are waving him in a certain direction with shiny sticks that make Adam think of workers on a tarmac at an airport.
"I've never been in this garage before. The vehicles are way higher tech than I'm used to working with. Workers are guiding us through on either side." Adam almost mumbles the words. But he wants Matt to understand their surroundings at the moment.
no subject
That response is enough that Matt knows Adam has understood him. It's hard to get to the heart of the truth in this place, to know how people feel and where their loyalties lie without committing treason.
He appreciates the way that Adam describes what's going on for him. "Maybe we can throw our badge and level around a little, get a better look at everything once we get this car delivered." He mumbles the words as well just in case anyone is listening.
no subject
"Yeah. Cool." He says, guiding the vehicle into the bay where they're instructed to. He puts the vehicle in park and starts to get out of the driver's side.
They're told to head back toward the mass transit station to get back to their compound. Adam stands next to Matt, ready to offer his arm if he needs to.
