Please use these confession booths to report mission statuses, report treason or terrorist acts, unregistered mutants, confess your trespasses against Alpha Complex, request propaganda or speak with Your Friend, The Computer, at any time.

She's just far too shy and modest to start blurting things out the way Buffy does. Most of the time, she doesn't regret her decisions and sticking her foot in her mouth has no adverse affects other than embarrassment. She'll likely never learn to filter herself and she's not terribly interested in trying.

Indeed it is. Considering Buffy has a boyfriend 'back home', it's quite the problem.

She nods a little, aware of that. "Yeah. I work with Alcide and he's my room mate so I'm not going to be able to avoid him for long." She tilts her head a little at Katniss. "He's a good guy, Derek. He's probably my best friend here so be nice to him. He deserves it."

At least a boyfriend isn't a worry Katniss has. She doesn't have anyone back home. Gale and Peeta? She considered both of them once. And they had decided she would chose between them based on whether a baker or a hunter would help improve her longevity. Then, less than twenty-four hours later, her sister had died and the question of Peeta or Gale had seemed insignificant in comparison.

That doesn't mean she's looking for anyone here. Not Derek, not anyone. But at least her situation isn't like Buffy's. From the sound of it, her problem just keeps getting worse and worse. The more Buffy talks, the more she grimaces.

And then scowls as soon as she warns her to be nice to Derek. "I know that." He's been far too nice to her. "Best thing he can do is stay away from me."

There had been so many layers of awkward and uncomfortable yesterday. An attraction to Alcide, a boyfriend back home, his girlfriend back home, the drugs, the hallway, the camera. Lots and lots of awkward.

That grimace isn't unnoticed, but it doesn't stop Buffy from saying what she feels she needs to.

Katniss's response gets a sharp look out of Buffy. "Why?" The word is alarmed and worried.
stillplaying: ([sad] damn it)

If she weren't so concerned about her own situation with Derek, Katniss would probably sympathize more with Buffy. She has her selfish tendencies, no matter what people back in Panem might otherwise think of her.

"Cause." Cause she's a bad person. Cause she gets people killed. Or tortured. Or kills them herself. Cause in all honesty, she's not someone worth knowing. And if Buffy is so concerned about protecting her friend, the best thing she can do is convince Derek not to help Katniss. But that's a lot to say and she doesn't know where to begin. "Cause I'm the one that kissed him," she finishes lamely. "I shouldn't have done that."

Buffy is making peace with it. It's enough to have someone to commiserate with.

Katniss's reluctance to answer doesn't phase Buffy. She has an annoying (much loved) teenage sister back home. She simply watches Katniss, waiting for that answer. "Some guys count that as a good thing." She's not sure whether Derek does or not, but she figures it might make Katniss feel better.

Commiserating is something that Katniss can do. It's something she can do very well. All commiserating really involves is quietly sitting there and listening. Occasionally nodding or making the appropriate facial expression every now and then. It's not that hard at all.

Katniss is aware that Buffy's trying to help. But she's not so certain that the woman's answer actually makes her feel better or worse. Katniss can't imagine it possibly being a good thing. "Why?"

It's enough that Buffy will keep rambling.

She is trying to help and at least Katniss is aware that her heart is in the right place. "The whole forwardness thing. It takes away any doubt about whether you want things to happen or not. The guy doesn't have to think about it."
stillplaying: ([confusion] you're joking)

[personal profile] stillplaying 2016-12-02 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Then ramble away. Katniss has never minded listening.

"Oh." She frowns for a second, her brow wrinkling. That's not something she's considered before. Then again, kissing is one of those things she's done her best not to think too much about. It's confusing. Embarrassing. And always somehow manages to make things worse. "I guess that makes sense."
whattingawhat: (I think you're adorable)

[personal profile] whattingawhat 2016-12-03 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, Buffy can't even argue with that. Kissing can be confusing and embarrassing and it can sometimes make things worse. However, it doesn't always have to do those things. "Really? Good. I mean I'm glad you see what I'm saying. "

She's not sure that Derek feels that way, but speaking in general, she thinks a lot of people do. She glances at her PDC then back up at Katniss. "Listen, I'm going to get back to work, but we'll talk again."

Probably whether Katniss wants to or not.
