Daycycle 110 [ October 2 - October 8]

daycycle 110

[Oct 2 - Oct 8]

Early, Early Morning [0400 - 0800]
Lydia Martin will be woken up at 0400 when a squad of Internal Security Gray Ops come to arrest Samantha Groves for treason. Root will be led away at gun point and Lydia will be immediately taken into IntSec for questioning. She will be grilled for the next four hours on Root's activites and her own loyalty. She will not be released until the Early Morning briefing.

Early Morning [0800 - 0900]All Troubleshooters Report for Duty

It is announced that there will be a mandatory ceremony for all Troubleshooters this evening in the Commissary. Not attending is treason.

There is no Mission assigned to any Specials Today.

Morning & Afternoon [0900 - 1600]Service Firm Positions
All Troubleshooters not assigned a mission should report to their Service Firm for their daily duties, unless specifically assigned a different shift.

At 1200 explosives planted by the Frankenstien Destroyers will detonate in the Bot Processing division. The goal is to destroy as many bots as processing equipment as possible. These explosions will cause significant damage to the division and temporarily lock down part of R&D. Troubleshooters will be called to the scene to help clean up and assist citizens caught in the blast.

Evening [1600 - 2200]Citizen Improvement
All Alpha citizens are encouraged to better themselves through Alpha’s wide variety of educational, entertainment and cultural opportunities offered each evening. Attending these sanctioned events are not mandatory, but is highly encouraged by The Computer. Citizens choosing not to take advantage of these opportunities, have a growing number of other options available to them in how to spend their hard earned credits and free time.

Tonight’s event will be at 1800 in the Commissary and will be hosted by Internal Security. This ceremony is to recognize the hard work and dedication of the Troubleshooters who have gone above and beyond in their service to Alpha Complex. The following specials will be promoted a clearance level for their work: Jillian Holtzmann, promoted to ORANGE for her work in explosives, Lydia Martin, promoted to YELLOW for her work in hygeine, and Matt Murdock, promoted to GREEN for his work in Personal Legal Defensive Practices. A mandatory round of clapping will be held for three minutes for each promotion.

Alpha Curfew Restrictions
All Alpha citizens should be in their quarters within the Wagon Wheel by 2200, unless they’ve been given permission from a GREEN or higher clearance level citizen. Sleeping Aid gas is dispelled each night in the Wagon Wheel at 2200 to assist citizens in getting a productive sleeping period.

Confession Booths
There are hundreds of confession booths available around Alpha Complex if a citizen would like to communicate directly with the computer. Please use these confession booths to report mission statuses, report treason or terrorist acts, unregistered mutants, confess your trespasses against Alpha Complex, request propaganda or speak with Your Friend, The Computer, at any time.

Clones. Alcide hasn't heard that one yet. Is he a clone? Is everyone a clone? Fuck that theory. He feels like himself. He has all his memories, all his emotions, all his thoughts and affiliations. He's exactly as he remembers himself to be, except he's here with a bunch of strangers being held by a supposedly psycho computer.

"Has anyone thought that maybe this is a Wizard of Oz sort of deal? With the man behind the curtain, runnin' everything?" He asks, certain that someone somewhere has to have considered that. Otherwise, why can't a bunch of people with brains and thumbs stop a computer?

He listens to her explanation of what she does. How did she get a job like that? Can she say whatever she wants? It seems like Gracie is in a position of power, can reach a lot of people at once, whether she realizes that or not. And maybe it's best for her not to realize it if she has no idea what good she can do with that power if she wanted to. "So you're like the weather report. Just statin' statistical facts."
dorkify: (Pretty smile)

Gracie hasn't made up her mind, but she knows the alphas think they're all clones. She feels like herself as well. She knows things that the computer doesn't, things that she remembers.

It's a relief to hear someone use a pop culture reference. It makes a smile burst over her face, despite the topic. "Oh, I'm not totally sold on it not being James Franco either, but most people's money is on HAL or VICKI." Alcide may regret giving Gracie a pass to use pop culture references.

She has no idea, except that she's got a degree in it from back home. She certainly can not say anything she wants. She has to be careful, maybe more careful than others. "Pretty much. Just the facts, no opinion pieces."

[personal profile] rouxgaroux 2016-10-14 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
And here is where the age divide butts in. The Wizard of Oz Alcide remembers didn't have James Franco in it. Was James Franco even born yet? Judy Garland sure had a pretty voice though, like an angel. He says none of that though because she smiled like that and it's hard for Alcide to think of a good reason to ruin it.

"Who's HAL and VICKI?" He asks instead.

There is a relief that she can't go outside of the lines. At the same time, it kind of pisses him off. If she's the press, she's basically on puppet strings or in a cage, so to speak. That's not fair. Two sides to ever coin, and all that. Alcide has a mix of feelings on the matter. "Have you tried going outside the lines before?" He's wondering what those consequences are. "They tell you what to say?"
dorkify: (Lost)

[personal profile] dorkify 2016-10-14 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a pretty large age divide, but to be fair, The Great and Powerful Oz is a movie that's reasonably recent. Gracie knows that version of The Wizard of Oz as well.

"Oh. Artifical Intelligences from movies that went crazy with power and turned evil." Her eyes go a little wide. "Not that I think our Friend Computer is evil. I mean...she...he is our Friend," she says it with a slow nod.

In a lot of ways, she is on puppet strings and she knows it. Eventually, she'll find a way (or at least try) to go outside those lines, to help people a little. "I've only been here a couple of days. I just did my first report this morning." She wrinkles her nose a little. "We have to very mindful of our words. You saw the welcome video, right?"

[personal profile] rouxgaroux 2016-10-15 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh. Yeah, I probably haven't seen those." Although he looks a little confused when she says the Computer is friendly, not evil. The thing altered him without his consent, and apparently wants him to think his entire life he's known up until now is a big hoax. That doesn't sound friendly to him. He has to think she's just being careful.

This is the reason Alcide nods slowly as well. Not necessarily agreeing, but trying to look like it and trying to get a grasp on whether or not Gracie is just playing along with some weird as fuck script that he has yet to be privy to. He doesn't know her well enough yet to read her.

He shakes his head. "I didn't see nothin'. Just told to go to work. I'm startin' to get the idea that somethin' went wrong with me gettin' here." In fact, he feels kind of clueless. "I've listened in on a few conversations that gave me a general idea, but..."
dorkify: (Don't like this)

[personal profile] dorkify 2016-10-16 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
She's glad he picks up on the slow nod. She's definitely just being careful.

She's not sure there's a script, but there's definitely things you should and shouldn't say.

Her brow creases a bit because, as far as she knows, that's highly unusual. "Walk with me?" she asks, tilting her head down the hallway a little. She thinks it's probably harder to listen in on and see conversations and reactions if they're spread out over various cameras rather than on one.

[personal profile] rouxgaroux 2016-10-17 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
With how careful everyone is around this place not to say the wrong thing, Alcide has to wonder what the repercussions are. He feels like he's walked in on some kind of Hitler like cult where if you don't follow the leader, the Computer in this case, you wind up dead or worse. He knows there's worse than dead. He just doesn't know what that translates to in this place.

Alcide nods and starts walking with her. "Why's everybody here actin' so weird. Like all this is normal? I take it I didn't get the speech most people did?"
dorkify: (Thoughtful)

[personal profile] dorkify 2016-10-18 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
She hasn't experienced the repercussions, but she's heard about some of them. She doesn't want to be drugged and she knows that some people have recently been arrested. Sure, being drugged isn't worse than dead, but it's still something she wants to avoid if possible.

"When I showed up a few days ago, I saw a video that told us how the Computer was our friend and that it only had our best interests at heart." She tucks a strand of her hair behind her ear as they walk. "The rest I picked up from others. Everything is treason here, including knowing what treason is. Loyalty the computer is something we have to feign." She presses her lips together, glancing up at a camera as they pass. Just pass the camera, she puts her hand on his arm and stops him.

"Not everyone is loyal. In fact, I'd guess most of the specials aren't, but we all pretend. I know they can drug you if you don't fall in line. We act happy and we smile. The computer is our friend for public purposes, okay? This is a black spot, so you can ask what you want, but we can't stay here for long or someone in security will wander where we've disappeared to."

[personal profile] rouxgaroux 2016-10-18 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. No, Alcide had not gotten the same introduction Gracie had. He'd been fast tracked to work. Maybe that was a mistake on the Computer's part. He's kind of glad to know that the Computer can make mistakes. There's room for error. Within that room for error, there's hope of finding a way around having to fall in line, act happy and smile.

Truth be told, Alcide's never been a good actor. He's never been good at feigning anything. He is what he is. Simple as that. This aspect of what's expected of them doesn't bode well for him. And maybe he's a danger to people in that way. It's not something he can change about himself.

"Yeah I didn't get any of that." He looks over at the camera and around to where they are, committing this spot to memory so he'll know one of the black spots are.

When Alcide looks back to Gracie, he shakes his head. "I've never been a good actor." This is a warning that being around him might not be a wise choice. He would hate to lose one of his first contacts in this place, but Alcide is also always an 'others before self' kind of guy first and foremost. "What do the drugs to?" He gets that question in before she decides she can't be around him. He hates drugs. So he has to know.
dorkify: (I was right)

[personal profile] dorkify 2016-10-21 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
A mistake. It is nice to know the Computer makes them. It's also puzzling: how Alcide could have slipped through the cracks.

Hopefully, it's a skill he'll pick up. Gracie has a feeling the computer won't be forgiving if he doesn't. There's more room for error if he pretends to fall in line, acts happy and smiles.

"Learn," Gracie suggests. "It gives you wiggle room. If you spend most of the time smiling and acting happy, maybe the Computer will look the other way when you have a bad day or when the smile slips. Or, when you get caught not pretending."

As for the second question: "Make you happy, I think. More content. Like super valium. I don't know. I've never been dosed." She glances at her PDC. "Come on. It's time to walk."

[personal profile] rouxgaroux 2016-10-21 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"Or maybe it'll bring me in close enough to hit the off switch." Alcide says, completely serious. However, to appease Gracie, he smirks and shrugs as if he's joking. It's a poor attempt to cover up and Gracie gets an up close and personal view of how poor an actor Alcide is. He would apologize, but... he's not sorry for being who and what he is.

They start to walk again and Alcide has an uncomfortable feeling in his stomach. Drugs that make you happy don't sound like a great idea. Alcide doesn't like being influenced in any way, shape or form.

He lowers his voice again. "Look, I don't wanna get you in any trouble. You've been really helpful. I just can't sit around and pretend it's all good when it's not." It's not in his nature to be duplicitous in that way. Usually that's a good thing. In this, it sounds like it's not so much with the good.

"I'm usually pretty good at stayin' off the radar though... until I decide not to. So I got that goin' for me." He offers a small, sideways half-smile, as if maybe she would forgive him for lacking in the former by excelling in the latter.
dorkify: (I'm taking a chance)

[personal profile] dorkify 2016-10-22 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
She shrugs a little. "Maybe." Gracie hasn't ever really been a rebellious person, but she'd like to see the Computer get switched off. She'd like to see someone better take over. She doesn't blame him for being blunt about how much he hates this place.

It's really not a comfortable scenario. Gracie wants to avoid it if at all possible. Being happy is great, but she wants to be happy because she's happy, not because she was forced to take drugs to make her happy.

She nods a little. "Just be careful, okay? I'd rather not report on you being arrested some morning," she smiles slightly at him, sympathetically.

Oh, she's certain that little smile gets him what he wants ninety percent of the time, and if she were responsible for cutting anyone slack, she'd probably do exactly that, but she's not. "I hope you don't pop up on the wrong radar then."
