It's when the woman starts to sit up, Derek notices the state she's in and his eyebrows lift. "What the hell happened to you?" he asks, surprised. It occurs to him that she's asked him a question and introduced herself and that he should respond to that, but his focus is on the black eye and the way she's wincing. She must've gotten caught up in whatever chaos had been unfolding this afternoon. He'd stayed out of it.
"...yeah, I guess so," he answers her question belatedly. "I'm Derek. Don't get up, it's fine. Are you okay…?"
Darkness filling his veins, pain flooding in with it. Derek moves into the room and sinks onto another bed, shaking his head and pushing the glitch away. He would think about it when he was alone, he reminded himself.
