Daycycle 124 [January 29 - February 4]
daycycle 124
[Jan 29 - Feb 4]
[OOC Plotting for this Dacycle can be found here.]
Early Morning [0800 - 0900] — All Troubleshooters Report for Duty
No Specials will be selected for a mission today.
Morning & Afternoon [0900 - 1600] — Service Firm Positions
All Troubleshooters not assigned a mission should report to their Service Firm for their daily duties.
At 0900, Allison Argent will be reassigned to Armed Forces' Very Special Forces firm under Steve Rogers.
At 1300, VIOLET judge Bethany Abbott will be discovered dead in her chambers. Her death will ultimately be ruled murder by poisonous gas. Mind Control will immediately begin running coverage on her accomplishments, including the controversial decision less than a week ago to drop the treason charges against Oliver Queen and Parker and return them to Alpha. Once again, the letters "MOD" will be found at the crime scene. This time carved across Abbott's desk underneath her slumped body.
Gracie Cannell will be pulled from her blog to cover the breaking news due to her Special status.
News of the murder will spread like wildfire across Alpha, inciting fear in higher clearance citizens because VIOLET citizens were believed to be untouchable. In lower clearance citizens, the event will be enough to get ASS vocal again. Within hours there will be anti-special messages spray painted across Alpha.
Evening [1600 - 2200] — Citizen Improvement
All Alpha citizens are encouraged to better themselves through Alpha’s wide variety of educational, entertainment and cultural opportunities offered each evening. Attending these sanctioned events are not mandatory, but is highly encouraged by The Computer. Citizens choosing not to take advantage of these opportunities, have a growing number of other options available to them in how to spend their hard earned credits and free time.
Tonight’s event will be at 1800 in the Wagon Wheel, floor 25, Room H and will be held by the Extreme Ironing Club. This group is for those Alpha citizens who can't get their uniforms wrinkle-free enough. (Though anyone who may attend this incredibly boring sounding meeting, will actually find an established Free Enterprise dice game in progress instead.)
During the dinner rush, at 1900 a group of twenty ASS members in masks and armed with steel bars will form a brief demonstration in the Commissary in which they chant "Down with Specials." If there happens to be any Specials present in the Commissary at that time, they will attack them with malice.
Alpha Curfew Restrictions
All Alpha citizens should be in their quarters within the Wagon Wheel by 2200, unless they’ve been given permission from a GREEN or higher clearance level citizen. Sleeping Aid gas is dispelled each night in the Wagon Wheel at 2200 to assist citizens in getting a productive sleeping period.
Confession Booths
There are hundreds of confession booths available around Alpha Complex if a citizen would like to communicate directly with the computer. Please use these confession booths to report mission statuses, report treason or terrorist acts, unregistered mutants, confess your trespasses against Alpha Complex, request propaganda or speak with Your Friend, The Computer, at any time.

Katniss doesn't blame Derek for not looking for her. That need to protect oneself over anyone else is one that Katniss understands all too well. He knows how important Prim is to her. And besides, more than anything, she's supposed to be capable of taking care of herself. She's been in worse danger than the brawl in the commissary tonight and fought her way out of that. The problem is that she hadn't done that. She had frozen and she had needed Clint to rescue her.
"She's fine," Katniss whispers, pressing another quick kiss to his lips. "She was incredible tonight. Wouldn't leave the first aid station."
no subject
"Good," he says, "I'm really glad she's okay." Somehow, he's actually a little surprised to hear that Prim wouldn't leave the first aid station. He doesn't know her and he's never met her so he's always sort of pegged her to be a bit like a tiny version of Katniss, he supposes, in that she would be more passive about helping others and more aggressive about keeping herself safe. He thinks that because Laura and Cora were very much like him in that way, so why shouldn't Katniss's sister be like her, too?
"So what you're saying is your sister is single-handedly restoring faith in humanity," he says and he's only half-joking. "That's really cool. She sounds nice."
no subject
"You should meet her," Katniss says earnestly, speaking without thinking. She hadn't expected to want this so much. It's important that they meet. Even more important that they like each other. "I told her about you and.... You'd like her, Derek. It's hard not to."
no subject
"You told her about me, huh?" he asks, also surprised. He'd sort of gotten the idea that this thing between them was quite literally between them and that the only outside people who knew were Alcide and Buffy and only because Katniss comes to his room and they'd both lived with him when it started. "I believe that. She sounds like the kind of person that's hard not to like," he replies. "Whenever you want." If she really wants and she hadn't just blurted that out by accident in the moment, anyway.
no subject
At his question, she briefly wonders if she had done the right thing telling Prim about Derek. Then she dismisses it. He had kissed her goodbye at work the previous day. That makes it more public. They had kissed at the gala, too, hadn't they?
"Soon," she answers confidently, then stealing another kiss because he said she could, didn't she? Whenever she'd like. Given how tempting it is to give into her self-hatred and self-pity for the rest of the night, distracting herself with Derek's mouth seems like a much better solution. "I messed up tonight," she continues, quieter and more somber. "And I could've lost her - or you - because of it." Another kiss. "I don't want to keep things from her."
Besides, she wants Prim to have someone to look after her if something happened to Katniss. Katniss trusts Derek to do that job.
no subject
"You don't have to keep things from her," he says quietly, stroking her hair. "I don't think you should, either. I learned the hard way what it feels like to keep things from your sister and never get the chance to tell her. Me keeping secrets from my sister killed her, in the end. Don't make my mistake; keep Prim in the loop whenever you can," he replies. And he does feel that way, because it's true. If he'd just told Laura the truth about the fire, she wouldn't have been in Beacon Hills by herself poking around trying to find out who had set it. If she hadn't been there, she wouldn't have met up with Peter; he wouldn't have had the chance to kill her for the Alpha spark. Laura Hale's death might have been at the hands of her uncle, but it was her little brother who set it in motion and that's something he has to live with for the rest of his life. He doesn't want that sort of weight on Katniss's mind if, God forbid, something happens to Prim that could've been avoided if she'd been in the know on something.
Derek holds her for a moment in silence and then closes his eyes, shifting for her to move against him the way she always does when they're about to go to sleep, even though he's wide awake with that reminder of what happened to Laura fresh in the front of his mind. "You can't blame yourself for not knowing how you were going to react under direct, surprise attack, Katniss. ...I should tell you something, actually. Something happened to me while I was in that fight. Before Gracie saved my ass with that freeze ray or whatever the hell it is she'd had with her." He should tell her about the wolf, because it came out, just for a second. That means it's still inside him somewhere, and it's only a matter of time before he can take back control of it. So she should know about who he really is, since contrary to what he'd originally thought, he's the same person he was before this place...the wolf is just a little more inaccessible at the moment. Not for good. It's in there, he just has to figure out how to keep it closer to the surface again.

She presses another kiss to his lips and then trails a few along his jawline. It's not the response he probably wanted when he shifted in the bed but Katniss doesn't care. He always comforts her. It's a favor that she should - more important wants - to return. So she keeps peppering his face with small kisses as her hand runs up and down his bicep soothingly. She keeps it up until the start of his confession. Then she pulls away, brow furrowing in confusion.
"You said you were fine," she insists, her lips pressed into a thin, serious line. It's tempting to pull away the covers to check Derek over for injuries just to make sure he hadn't lied to her about that. The worry nags at her and her confused look becomes something of a glare in response. "Don't lie to me, Derek. Did you get injured?"
no subject
"No, no," he assures her. "No, not...not like that. That's not what I meant," he adds.
Okay, how to breach this subject. If the wolf is still in there, then eventually, he'll have access. At least, he's definitely hoping for access. The wolf is a fundamental part of Derek and he's never spent this much time separated from it the way he is. It's both maddening and terrifying to have his identity so easily ripped away from him only to find out that it's absolutely still there, he just can't touch it of his own accord.
But all of that had been the driving force to him not saying anything to Katniss about it. What was the point in telling her he's a werewolf if he isn't, anymore? Well...now he realizes he is, the wolf is just out of reach.
"It's...there's something about me that I haven't said anything about because I didn't...realize it was still a part of me. But during that fight, I felt it again; I know it's still somewhere inside me and I don't know if what I am will be a dealbreaker for you. So I don't really want to tell you, but you deserve to know that I'm not...actually a human being. Not like you are," he says, brow creasing slightly. And because he knows that things are different where some people come from; even Alcide's werewolf is different than his, so for all he knows, she might not even know that it's a thing. "...have you ever heard of a werewolf?"
no subject
Except that's exactly what she starts to do a second later. He falls quiet and that quiet contemplation starts to worry her. Normally he's a lot better with his words than she is. He's confident and caring and everything she doesn't consider herself. Wanting to reassure him, Katniss reaches for a free hand and entwines her fingers with his. She squeezes his hand, prompting him to tell her whatever it is he's not saying.
Except when he does talk, it's nothing that she expects. Katniss frowns, nearly scowling at the idea that something might be a dealbreaker for her. Scowling even more when he says he isn't human like she is. "Derek, I sleep beside you every night," she begins, blushing a little as she states the obvious. "I think I'd notice if you weren't human." He's human. As human as Peeta. As human as she is. It's ridiculous to think otherwise. But Derek seems to think otherwise. "What's a werewolf?"
no subject
He shifts a little, out of the time-for-sleep position, propping himself up just a little bit so he can look at her without craning his neck or her having to crane hers. "A werewolf is...a man or woman who...can turn into a wolf, sort of. Like, a wolfman or wolfgirl, with a hairier face and eyes that glow; fangs, claws...we look like monsters, but not all of us are. I'm not a monster," he says softly.
Somehow, even though Katniss is probably grappling to understand an entirely foreign concept, the fact that he's told her lifts a weight of his shoulders that he hadn't actually realized he'd been carrying since Adam was given his memories. Now, if Adam told, oh well. No one that he cares about will be learning anything new. Buffy knows, Alcide knows, and now Katniss does. Everyone else is inconsequential; Derek doesn't give a shit about them.
"But I felt that part of myself again for the first time since I got here, so the wolf is still inside me somewhere, I just have to figure out how to access it again. It makes me stronger. Faster. I have better senses than humans. I could protect you better; protect Prim," he offers.
