Nodding a little after the kiss, Derek is glad to hear that her sister is still in one piece. Although, he can't imagine she'd be here if Prim wasn't all right, now that he thinks about it. Stroking her hair with one hand, Derek draws her nearer with the other just to keep her close.
"Good," he says, "I'm really glad she's okay." Somehow, he's actually a little surprised to hear that Prim wouldn't leave the first aid station. He doesn't know her and he's never met her so he's always sort of pegged her to be a bit like a tiny version of Katniss, he supposes, in that she would be more passive about helping others and more aggressive about keeping herself safe. He thinks that because Laura and Cora were very much like him in that way, so why shouldn't Katniss's sister be like her, too?
"So what you're saying is your sister is single-handedly restoring faith in humanity," he says and he's only half-joking. "That's really cool. She sounds nice."
