She needed to hug him for her own reassurance but it means a lot when he hugs her in return. Usually, he's the one that initiates a lot of the physical contact between them. That he doesn't seem to mind her need to initiate things tonight doesn't go unnoticed. Katniss is just as pleased that he kisses her back. It makes it all that much harder to pull her lips from his. But she needs to. She needs to apologize.

Katniss doesn't blame Derek for not looking for her. That need to protect oneself over anyone else is one that Katniss understands all too well. He knows how important Prim is to her. And besides, more than anything, she's supposed to be capable of taking care of herself. She's been in worse danger than the brawl in the commissary tonight and fought her way out of that. The problem is that she hadn't done that. She had frozen and she had needed Clint to rescue her.

"She's fine," Katniss whispers, pressing another quick kiss to his lips. "She was incredible tonight. Wouldn't leave the first aid station."
