Daycycle 122 [ January 15 - January 21]

daycycle 122

[Jan 15 - Jan 21]

[OOC Plotting for this Dacycle can be found here.]

Early, Early Morning [0200 - 0400]
At approximately 0200, several explosive devices planted in Technical Services by PURGE will detonate, damaging several memobanks. In a rush to prepare for the morning upload several Technicians will mistakenly put the wrong memories in the wrong banks. They will catch their mistake before the final upload, but as a result several memories will now be shared across different alpha citizens' consciousnesses. These memories will be experienced as dreams and characters will retain knowledge of them when they wake.

Memory Swap Pairs
  • Adam Parrish - Derek Hale
  • Zatanna Zatara - Oliver Queen
  • Steve Rogers - Ronan Lynch
  • Katniss Everdeen - Matt Murdock
  • Morgana LeFey - Tony Stark
  • Clint Barton - Allison Argent
  • Isabelle Lightwood - Lydia Martin
  • Buffy Summers - Barry Allen
  • Emma Swan - Parker
  • Cisco Ramon - Gracie Cannell
  • Natasha Romanoff - Jack Harkness
  • Primrose Everdeen - Alcide Herveaux

Room 1101 will be woken up at 1200 when a squadron of Internal Security Gray Ops come to arrest Bucky Barnes for treason. He will be led away at gun point and his roommates, Ronan Lynch, Adam Parrish and Oliver Queen will be immediately taken into IntSec for questioning. They will be questioned about the activities of their former roommate for several hours before being sedated and returned to their room before 0500. Bucky's roommates will not remember his arrest or their questioning when they wake, though they may feel the lingering active effects of the sedative for several hours into their day.

The memory of Bucky Barnes having ever been present in Alpha will be erased with varying degrees of success from all those he came into contact with.

Early Morning [0800 - 0900]All Troubleshooters Report for Duty

No Specials will be selected for a mission today.

Morning & Afternoon [0900 - 1600]Service Firm Positions
All Troubleshooters not assigned a mission should report to their Service Firm for their daily duties.

At 0900 it will be discovered that the shooter from Steve Roger's assassination attempt has, ironically, been assassinated along with her guards in Armed Forces the night before. The letters mod will be left written in the shooter's blood along her cell wall.

Evening [1600 - 2200]Citizen Improvement
All Alpha citizens are encouraged to better themselves through Alpha’s wide variety of educational, entertainment and cultural opportunities offered each evening. Attending these sanctioned events are not mandatory, but is highly encouraged by The Computer. Citizens choosing not to take advantage of these opportunities, have a growing number of other options available to them in how to spend their hard earned credits and free time.

Tonight’s event will be at 1900 in the Commissary and will be overseen by Clint Barton. Izzy Lightwood from Medical Services has been assigned to assist him in giving a demonstration on basic first aid and wound care.

Alpha Curfew Restrictions
All Alpha citizens should be in their quarters within the Wagon Wheel by 2200, unless they’ve been given permission from a GREEN or higher clearance level citizen. Sleeping Aid gas is dispelled each night in the Wagon Wheel at 2200 to assist citizens in getting a productive sleeping period.

Confession Booths
There are hundreds of confession booths available around Alpha Complex if a citizen would like to communicate directly with the computer. Please use these confession booths to report mission statuses, report treason or terrorist acts, unregistered mutants, confess your trespasses against Alpha Complex, request propaganda or speak with Your Friend, The Computer, at any time.

Lydia takes a deep breath and lets it out in a soft sigh. She hasn't talked to him a lot about home, but some of the things she's seen and done...well. "I think I'll be okay. Let's hope I don't ever have to bother using it, but honestly if I have to do something ugly to stay alive, I'll deal with the ugly thing later."

Steve's moving her hand and her eyes are on his face until he stops to speak again. At that point, her eyes shift down to her fingers against his throat and already, she's got a bad feeling about where this is going, because most people probably don't realize just how vulnerable that part of the body can be. Lydia doesn't have to be an expert to know that, though. It's largely unprotected bone; it's literally the windpipe.

Her eyes move back to his face and she swallows thickly, nodding and attempting to keep her expression open but neutral. "Yes," she says to acknowledge it aloud, her way of prodding him to continue.

He nods. Because unfortunately, these are the kinds of decisions people have to make in Alpha. He hopes she won’t have to use it either, but if she does, Steve wants her to have this option.

“I’m going to give you some instructions, and I want you to follow them,” he says, his hands still making sure that her fingers stay exactly where they are at the moment. He wants her to get a real feel for the placement of what is and isn’t vibrating as he talks. “But if at any time, you feel me tap you on the shoulder, I’m going to need you to remove your hand as fast as you can. Alright?”

Lydia blinks. He wants her to do it? Right now? On him?

Her jaw slackens briefly before words actually find their way to her lips. "Okay. I can do that, yes. Got it," she agrees, sounding a little more awkward than Lydia Martin normally does. It's because that's slightly worrisome, trying something like this for the first time and trying it on a good friend rather than a stranger or a dummy or something.

"Okay, what do I do?"

Sadly, this isn’t something you can try on a dummy. It won’t feel the same, and it won’t react in the same way. The best way to learn is with someone you trust.

“Yes you can,” he reaffirms, and when she asks for what to do, Steve begins.

“First, you’ll wanna put your fingers around my trachea. Four on one side, your thumb on the other. Just like you would if you were gonna grab something with your hand. Yeah- keep your fingers a little straighter- yes- a little further apart, right along the outside- Yeah, that’s it.”

Steve swallows, not on purpose, but Lydia will be able to feel it.

“Now slowly, I want you to just push your fingers into my neck. Just straight back, and don’t worry, this won’t hurt. I’ll tell you when to stop.”

She doesn’t have to go far, but the problem most beginners have with this move is that they’re too scared to go far enough. Because as soon as Lydia’s fingers begin to really push, she’s going to meet resistance, and the boundaries between his windpipe and the rest of his neck will get fuzzier, not clearer.

But about half an inch past resistance, that’s as far as she needs to push. “Alright. That’s good.” So far, none of this is enough to make anyone uncomfortable. If Lydia tries it on herself later, she should be able to tell too. All she’d feel is pressure, but no pain.

Steve pauses just to check in, to make sure everything’s still alright. If she doesn’t given any indication that she wants to stop, he’ll keep going after that.

Her stomach is tumbling with nerves as she starts to follow Steve's instructions. What if she does something wrong and really hurts him? She can feel his Adam's apple bob beneath her fingers when he swallows and that almost makes her let go entirely. It's sheer force of will that makes her stay where she is.

At his instruction to push back, Lydia worries at her bottom lip with her teeth, but she does as she's told. It doesn't feel so bad on her end but she can imagine that there's an awful lot of pressure at the center of Steve's throat the more she pushes. Yes, she's being a little too gentle and taking a little too long, but it's because it's Steve. Already, she can imagine exactly where this is going and if Steve were an enemy, Lydia would go for it in an emergency. But this is Steve. It's...Steve. She's struggling with that.

When Steve speaks, Lydia snatches her hand away, taking a second to actually process what he's said and realizing that it wasn't a complaint of pain or difficulty breathing or anything like that. He'd just been telling her to take a break for a second.

Lydia looks back at him tentatively, like she's not quite sure what's about to come next and she also isn't really sure she wants to know. There's still that part of her that believes she needs to know, because she needs to arm herself with anything that can help her survive an attack. She's been attacked directly before and she's still the waifish girl they wailed on the first time. It's hard not to be when she's only recently gained access to real food.

She clears her throat and then moves her fingers back to Steve's neck right where they were, but minus the pressure. "Is it just that? But with more pressure?" she asks, wetting her lips and looking up at him.

His eyebrows lift in alarm when she pulls back that quickly, and Steve brings a hand up to run across his throat.

“We don’t have to keep going, if you don’t want to.”

It was what he’d been worried about earlier. In the end, the actually move isn’t defensive. It’s aggressive, and viciously so. Most people aren’t ready for that — but most people aren’t in life-threatening situations every day. At least not back home.

But Lydia collects herself and moves her fingers back and Steve gives her a nod of encouragement as he moves his hand to hover over her shoulder. He’s going to need to tap her soon.

“There’s one more step. But before we get there, you’ve got to get comfortable with this part first. Do you remember how far in you were before you pulled back? I want you to practice, three times in a row, getting to that point faster. Start from where you are now, and remember, as long as you go straight back, it won’t hurt me.” A beat. “We’re almost done.”

Lydia shakes her head at Steve's get out of jail free card. It isn't that she doesn't want to learn, it's that she doesn't necessarily want to learn on him, because if she screws up, it matters if Steve's the person she's learning on. "No, I'm okay, I forgot that you said you'd tap me; I thought I was hurting you," she explains and shakes her head again, as if to clear it of her worry and pull her focus.

Clearing her throat, she nods and takes a deep breath. "I'm never going to get comfortable doing this to you, but...point taken," she agrees. And then, she does it. Her eyes are on his as she does the movement he taught her once, twice, a third time with a few seconds break in between and she's fairly certain she's got the hang of it, but Steve's the one on the receiving end of the gesture and the giving end of the knowledge, so only he can really tell her that.

"Okay...if I have that down...what next?"

Steve can’t help but smile just a little bit. “I think I should take that as a compliment.” That she’d never be comfortable doing this to him. Honestly he’s not even comfortable doing this to someone who attacked him. His style is much less deadly.

The first time Lydia goes in deep enough, but she takes too long, but the second time feels just right. And the third time reaffirms to him that she’s taken in everything he’s taught her so far. That’s the benefit of a beginner move like this one. It’s simple to execute as long as you’re willing to do what it takes.

“Good,” he says, after the last one. “If you think you’re about to get attacked, and you can’t remember how far in to push, just push as far as possible — and as fast as you can. The move only fails if you don’t go in far enough.” He gives her a nod, expecting to get one back as affirmation that she understands.

“The next part is disabling your opponent. Let me show you on your wrist.”

With her permission, he’ll hold her hand up vertically, so he can treat her wrist as if it were his throat. The beginning hand motions are exactly as she practiced, and for demonstration purposes, Steve ‘pushes’ forward, sliding his fingers up against her wrist, but stops when his fingertips are about three quarters of the way in.

“Your instinct might be to just apply pressure, like this.” It’s a sort of flat pressure she’ll feel as Steve just presses down, squeezing her wrist in between his fingers. “Because it feels safer. But instead, what you need to do, is pinch.”

Instead of staying straight, his fingers curl into a claw-like formation, and the pressure Lydia feels should be significantly greater and more compressed to one area. And Steve finally explains the part that had him hesitating in the beginning.

“Do this fast enough, and you’ll crush your opponent’s trachea. There’s no amount of muscle that can protect this part of your body.” Her opponent’s size, won’t matter. “Once the windpipe breaks, you’ll need to call an ambulance immediately.”

He never stops looking at her when he speaks. Steve wants her to understand the full spectrum of what he’s teaching her here. Breaking the trachea should be the absolute last resort.

“But you also don’t have to go that far. Apply enough pressure and your opponent will start to cough like they can’t get enough air. They won’t be able to focus on anything else. Most people will immediately need to sit. That’s when you run.”

He lets go of her and holds up his own wrist.

“Try it here first. Then we’ll try it on my neck, but ten times slower.”

Lydia's chewing on her bottom lip when she holds her arm up for Steve. The initial motion is familiar; it's what she's been doing on his throat. As he explains and demonstrates, Lydia realizes that she'd been right all along about this particular lesson. It's meant to crush the windpipe. The idea of it makes her sick to her stomach, but she understands why he's showing her. There's an empowerment to knowing how to do something like that if the need arises.

So she nods and takes a slow, deep breath to calm her stomach and clear her head. At least, she thinks with relief, he's telling her that there's a way to do it so that she's not doing quite as much damage, but still giving herself a quick escape. That calms her down probably a lot more than Steve even realizes. It isn't that she's afraid, or that she doesn't think she could do it if in a life or death situation. In fact, it's that she isn't afraid and does think she could that scares her. The fact that she's concerned that she wouldn't think twice about doing it to someone who was attacking her in the way she'd been attacked months ago by the A.S.S. in that storage closet is frightening because it means that she's colder on the inside than she'd like to be.

When he holds up his own wrist, she nods and starts to demonstrate the learned skill back to him. "Thanks for showing me this...and explaining everything," she says earnestly. And she shakes her head a little. "I don't want to do it on your neck," she admits honestly. "I get the idea. I can do it on myself a little bit and be able to feel what you're talking about without worrying that I'm pushing too hard because I'll be able to read my own pain and discomfort threshholds..."
