daycycle 122
[Jan 15 - Jan 21]
[OOC Plotting for this Dacycle can be found here.]
Early, Early Morning [0200 - 0400]
At approximately 0200, several explosive devices planted in Technical Services by PURGE will detonate, damaging several memobanks. In a rush to prepare for the morning upload several Technicians will mistakenly put the wrong memories in the wrong banks. They will catch their mistake before the final upload, but as a result several memories will now be shared across different alpha citizens' consciousnesses. These memories will be experienced as dreams and characters will retain knowledge of them when they wake.
Memory Swap Pairs

Room 1101 will be woken up at 1200 when a squadron of Internal Security Gray Ops come to arrest Bucky Barnes for treason. He will be led away at gun point and his roommates, Ronan Lynch, Adam Parrish and Oliver Queen will be immediately taken into IntSec for questioning. They will be questioned about the activities of their former roommate for several hours before being sedated and returned to their room before 0500. Bucky's roommates will not remember his arrest or their questioning when they wake, though they may feel the lingering active effects of the sedative for several hours into their day.
The memory of Bucky Barnes having ever been present in Alpha will be erased with varying degrees of success from all those he came into contact with.
Early Morning [0800 - 0900] — All Troubleshooters Report for Duty
No Specials will be selected for a mission today.
Morning & Afternoon [0900 - 1600] — Service Firm Positions
All Troubleshooters not assigned a mission should report to their Service Firm for their daily duties.
At 0900 it will be discovered that the shooter from Steve Roger's assassination attempt has, ironically, been assassinated along with her guards in Armed Forces the night before. The letters mod will be left written in the shooter's blood along her cell wall.
Evening [1600 - 2200] — Citizen Improvement
All Alpha citizens are encouraged to better themselves through Alpha’s wide variety of educational, entertainment and cultural opportunities offered each evening. Attending these sanctioned events are not mandatory, but is highly encouraged by The Computer. Citizens choosing not to take advantage of these opportunities, have a growing number of other options available to them in how to spend their hard earned credits and free time.
Tonight’s event will be at 1900 in the Commissary and will be overseen by Clint Barton. Izzy Lightwood from Medical Services has been assigned to assist him in giving a demonstration on basic first aid and wound care.
Alpha Curfew Restrictions
All Alpha citizens should be in their quarters within the Wagon Wheel by 2200, unless they’ve been given permission from a GREEN or higher clearance level citizen. Sleeping Aid gas is dispelled each night in the Wagon Wheel at 2200 to assist citizens in getting a productive sleeping period.
Confession Booths
There are hundreds of confession booths available around Alpha Complex if a citizen would like to communicate directly with the computer. Please use these confession booths to report mission statuses, report treason or terrorist acts, unregistered mutants, confess your trespasses against Alpha Complex, request propaganda or speak with Your Friend, The Computer, at any time.

citizen improvement
morning;
Adam knows that face because he pays attention. He's a professional people watcher. He's also very good at going unnoticed while he watches people, learns their behaviors, knows their names and routines before they even know he exists. That's why when Adam enters the commissary that morning and he sees that very face sitting at a table eating breakfast, he marches right over to the table and sits down across from him. Normally, Adam might not be so bold, but he's just unnerved enough by his dreams to throw everything off-kilter.
The bruises on Adam's face have dulled to a barely visible yellow, sickening looking, but almost healed. He's slim and is best described as a sepia photograph, all except his brilliant blue eyes, the eyes of a nineteen year old who was forced to grow up way before he should have had to. They're the eyes of an old soul in a young, beat up body. Those eyes stare at the stranger across from him for a few moments before he leans in and whispers accusingly.
"What did you do to me?" The moment the question is asked, Adam averts his gaze. He's never been able to hold eye contact for very long for all the wrong reasons - beginning and ending with his father.
no subject
It's when the other man leans in and Derek catches the movement out of his periphery that he finally looks and he frowns with incredulity for a second at the question, opening his mouth to respond nastily at an unfounded accusation from a complete goddamn stranger when it clicks. Wrong!Isaac.
Derek does a double take and drops his fork. "It's you," he blurts out. "Who are you?"
It occurs to him a second later that the question makes a little bit more sense now. Not much, but enough to merit an answer. "I didn't do anything to you, what are you—do I know you? I..." he pauses. "Is your name Adam? Is that your name? Adam?" he asks, trying to put the pieces together aloud as they come to him.
no subject
Usually Adam is a very quiet and thoughtful person. Now he's sitting here with a stranger, staring intently at the top of the table while trying to rethink everything. If Derek didn't make him have those dreams, dreams where he felt like he lived everything the star went through, then how? Who? And Why?
He shakes his head and mutters an apology as he starts to get up from the seat across from Derek. Then Derek says his name and blue eyes snap back up to him as he sits back down. He looks at Derek briefly before looking sideways, away again and nods. "How do you know my name? How do I know you're Derek. You were in my dreams last night. Your... your face changed. You were..."
A monster? What? He has no idea what to call what he saw. "I don't know you." But he does now, doesn't he? In a sense... if the dreams were true. And if he dreamed Derek's life, did Derek dream his? His features fall and he whispers two words. "Oh no."
no subject
Derek tenses and takes in a sharp breath when Adam starts to mention his face in his dreams last night; jaw sets when he's nearly positive he knows the end of the sentence Adam doesn't let himself finish. "Not all predators are killers," he says quietly, frowning, and then a moment later, tacks on, "and I'm not a monster." Not anymore, anyway.
But now he realizes what's going on. Adam knows more about Derek than he should and Derek knows more about Adam than he should. Strangers forced to get to know one another without the other's permission; fed information they shouldn't have through their dreams.
"I dreamed about you last night, too. I thought it was something else; someone else." He's quiet for a moment. "I won't tell anybody about you if you don't tell anybody about me?" His eyes shift up from the table and the slop on his tray in front of him to the man across the table. "And I won't ask questions if you won't." Because it's none of his business what went on in Adam's life before this place and it sure as hell isn't any of Adam's business what went on in Derek's, they just didn't really have a choice in the matter.
no subject
What he saw in his dreams looked like a monster. There were flashes of images without any context to Derek's story, or to any story really, just images, disjointed and unclear. It was violent and bloody and also kind of sad. Derek was chained up a lot. Restrained. Why restrain someone who isn't dangerous?
"No one has their... whatever powers they had here." Meaning, that's why Derek isn't dangerous right now, at least to Adam. And even then, the anger he'd seen in Derek's eyes in those flashes in some places, Derek could probably still be dangerous. Adam's predator was a human, after all. Nothing spectacular about Robert Parrish.
The knowledge that Derek saw any of Adam's horrible messed up life back home, the knowledge that Derek knows how weak Adam has been and sometimes still is, it's upsetting. Especially if Derek is as scary as Adam saw. He nods at Derek and stands up again. "Deal." Best to just back slowly away and pretend it didn't happen. "I'm good at keeping secrets. Just don't come after me an Ronan. That's all." Because if that happens, all bets are off. Everyone will know about it. Adam will scream it from the mountaintops, so to speak. Self-preservation at its finest. That's one thing Adam is good at, self-preservation.
no subject
"What they took from me was what makes me who I am. It'd be like if they turned you into a monkey. That's what they did to me, they made me a weaker version of myself who can't protect himself or anyone he cares about, it's not just about power. It hasn't been for a long time."
Why that word in specific gets under Derek's skin is pretty specific to the fact that he'd been briefly an Alpha for all the wrong reasons, fucked it up and cost people their lives, and learned the hard way that it wasn't power that he wanted and it isn't power that he needs. He'd wanted a family again.
Shaking his head, Derek clears his throat. "I like Ronan," he replies simply. "And I don't know you. You don't hurt the people I care about, to my knowledge, so you're fine by me. So's he." Derek hates the idea that he has to trust this stranger, this skittish, human stranger who Derek can tell is afraid of what he saw whether he wants to admit it or not. It doesn't make Derek feel very confident that the whole goddamn Complex won't know sooner than later what he really is and the worst part is that he won't even have the benefit of the enhanced abilities that come with being a werewolf to protect him from the inevitable response of humans to the knowledge: they will hunt him. His whole life, he'd been hunted. Why should that change here?
Derek's eyes shift up and down over Adam's face. He inhales deeply through his nose by reflex but can't catch the scent because his human nose is worthless. "What did you see?" he finally asks. It's too much not knowing. Did he see Derek snapping Paige's neck? Slashing Peter's throat? Trying to kill Jennifer? Actually killing Boyd?
Did he see those things completely out of context the way Adam's memories were largely if not completely out of context for Derek? If so, it's no wonder he's uneasy. Without context, Derek does look like a monster and he knows it.
no subject
For a moment Adam's features soften a bit, because he can understand something being so much a part of you that it's not a separate thing entirely. Cabeswater was taken from him after all, the one thing besides Ronan that protected Adam. But then Derek goes into another explanation that has Adam on edge again. If they took that beast from Derek, shouldn't that be a good thing? In the end, Adam doesn't do well with confrontation so he stays silent. Of course this is his fault. He started it by barreling in without thinking... which he usually wouldn't do except, he's been trying to be braver than he was. It was stupid, really, to initiate contact with someone who usually has sharp teeth and claws.
At mention of Ronan, Derek has Adam's attention. He never really meets his gaze because all of his bluster from before is deflating into 'holy crap what am I doing' and 'stranger danger'. But he pays attention, because it has to do with Ronan. Derek knows Ronan. Adam wonders if Ronan knows what Derek is. Does Adam even really know what he is? No. He wants to tell him to stay away from Ronan, but he isn't that brave in the moment.
He leans in and whispers after a glance around the room to see if anyone was close enough to hear him. No one is. "I saw you chained up. I saw your eyes glow red and there were fights and... your face. Maybe people were hunting you, I don't know. I couldn't tell. There were a lot of images, no words, really."
no subject
Adam leans forward and whispers and Derek's heart sinks. Red eyes. He's seen when Derek was an Alpha. It's, quite frankly, one of the lower points in Derek's life, if you ask Derek. He made some of his worst decisions that caused some of the most pain and loss during that time in his life. A hurt expression crosses his face only long enough for Derek to feel it there before he can straighten it into something more neutral.
"People have been hunting me my entire life," he whispers back. His eyes shift up to try to meet Adam's. "Literally, my whole life. When I was chained up...did you see who I was looking at? Was it a woman?" Was it Kate? "She's a human and a werewolf hunter. She killed my family, almost all of them. She lied to me, she told me she loved me, and I trusted her. And to pay me back for it, she made sure my whole family was in one place, because we locked ourselves up and chained up the kids who didn't have control of themselves on the wolf moon because it's the strongest pull. She waited until that moon and she set my house on fire. There were kids, human kids, in that house. But yeah. I have glowing eyes and fangs and claws; I'm the monster, right?"
Derek leans back and takes a deep breath, his stomach turning with the memory of what happened so many years ago when he was too busy thinking with his dick to realize that she'd set a trap and he'd stepped willingly into it. It makes him sick to think about to this day. But if Adam is going to sit across the table from Derek and think that he's a monster, then Derek is going to remind him that humans can be monsters, too. Adam should know. His father beat the shit out of him. Derek's ear still has a phantom ringing in it.
"I would appreciate it if this could remain between us. Even if I did have my abilities, I wouldn't hurt Ronan, or you. Like I said, I don't know you; I don't have any reason to. And Ronan, he's helping me learn to fight and protect myself without my normal strength and abilities. I'm not going to hurt somebody who's helping me, Adam, I might be a werewolf but I'm not an idiot."

evening
(Besides, if the Hunger Games are any reminder, a first aid class could be useful.)
What she doesn't expect is encountering Derek there. It makes it difficult to focus on Clint's lessons and she hates herself a little bit for that. But he had kissed her like Peeta would do when they had been pretending to be in a relationship, like it was the most natural thing in the world. Only thing is, Derek wasn't pretending. He wasn't trying to calm her down. He had just kissed her like this thing between them might actually be real.
Despite herself, she steals glances at him a number of times during the activity. She should talk to him, shouldn't she? It's the adult thing. Better than ignoring. Katniss tells herself that again and again until she finds herself approaching him at the end of citizen improvement. She smiles briefly as she greets him, "Hi."
no subject
So when he hears Katniss's greeting, he startles a little and looks over sharply by reflex even though he recognizes her voice. Seeing her face settles him instantly and he relaxes visibly. "Hey," he replies and Derek returns the smile. "Did you just get here? I'm not gonna lie, I am not going to remember a word of this tomorrow...and I actually, for the first time, kind of feel bad about that, actually," he admits in a whisper so as not to disrupt the class.
"Sorry I bailed earlier, I had to finish those reports for the study; I'm turning everything in in the morning," he adds apologetically. Derek does feel kind of bad about leaving her alone up there almost all day, but his project is important for everyone and he's sure she understands. Or he'd like to think she does.
no subject
There's been a lot to think about. Derek's kiss hadn't helped much.
"I've been here for most of the class," she whispers back, not wanting to disturb Clint's class either. It's why she had waited this long to approach him anyway. She shrugs in response to his apology. That he had left early hadn't mattered. Katniss understood that he had to get everything in order for his study. "You had to do other work to do. Did you get it done?"
no subject
He nods. "Yeah, I finished it," he whispers. "I'll just turn it in before I head to breakfast in the morning. Then, I guess, we hope for the best."
Not that he has high hopes. Derek has a feeling that even though he's stacked the deck in his favor, the Computer is equally as likely to take his findings and make a necessary change as It is to scrap his findings and pretend he never did the study at all to maintain the status quo. He hopes his work actually accomplishes, but he isn't going to hold his breath. If he gets him nowhere, though, Derek already knows he'll be less and less engaged in this place than he already is. The people are the only thing that keep him from hating this place to its very core. The fact that they took away his wolf is the only thing that keeps most of the Alphas alive, at this rate, because he's angry...all the time. Except when he's in bed with Katniss and there are only so many hours of the day they can get away with that.
no subject
He's had a lot to do today. Katniss doesn't blame him for not noticing her in the crowd of people. Besides, she doesn't expect him to notice her every time they're in the same place. She isn't exactly certain what they are to each other - if there's anything there aside from friend. Derek isn't an asshole. He's been anything but to her in the entire time she's known him.
"Let me know?" Katniss asks, uncertain if he'd let her know the outcome unless she did ask. She wants the odds to be in Derek's favor. Whether or not the Computer believes his findings though, she's proud of him. Taking a chance like that isn't easy. Taking any kind of chance isn't.
She glances up at Clint as he wraps up the lesson and then back at Derek. The people here mean the world to her, too. She wants the best for Prim and for the few that she slowly started to befriend. She wants the best for Derek, too. He's too much like her, with the odds rarely in his favor. He deserves something good. She takes a breath. "I can go with you. If you want."
no subject
When Katniss looks up, so does Derek, just in time to see that the lesson is being wrapped and Derek's attention moves back to Katniss. At her offer of solidarity, Derek smiles a little. "I thought you said authority doesn't mesh with you," he teases playfully as he pushes himself to his feet and offers her a hand to pull her up as well. If the class is over and neither of them are really paying attention anyway, there's no point staying for anything extra, is there?
"If you want to come with me, that's fine. I'm going in the morning, first thing. Dropping off the paperwork and going to one of the confessionals to give my results," he explains.
no subject
"It doesn't," she agrees, a serious note to her voice. Katniss has many shortcomings; her inability to obey authority is one of those things high up there. Taking his offered hand, she stands. He's teasing her and she wants to tease him back but discussion of authority keeps her from being jovial. "But if you wanted the moral support..."
Katniss shrugs as she trails off. Her cheeks flush a little and the ghost of a smile crosses her face. "You support me. It wouldn't be right if I didn't help you in return."
no subject
"I think the fact that you helped me with my study by giving me subjects and that you're willing to come with me even though I can tell you really don't want to is plenty of support, Katniss," he says sincerely. "If you want to come, I'd love for you to come, but I'm not going to feel like you're abandoning me if you don't feel comfortable. I'm really just dropping off the results and giving a report in the confessional, it's okay. I'll let you decide, but I don't want you to think that you have to come for me to believe that you've got my back on this," Derek explains.
He leans in to whisper in her ear, then. "I already know that you do and I appreciate it probably more than you realize."

Afternoon
"Hey," she says as she approaches, a tired, serious look on her face. "You okay?"
Because there were the weird dreams then the shooter that they'd been protecting had been assassinated. On top of all of that, she hasn't actually seen her best friend much the last couple of days. It's a lot.
no subject
"I could ask you the same thing," he adds, because she doesn't look okay to him, not even a little, and it's been a couple of days since he's seen her. ORANGE does not appear to be treating Buffy terribly well so far and that thought makes Derek frown. "What's going on...?"
He tries not to make mention of the elephants in the room — her fatigued appearance and the ORANGE jumpsuit — because Derek doesn't really want to discuss either of them right now as much as he just wants to make sure his friend is okay. She's clearly not happy, but safe and 'okay' would be passable, he supposes, right now.
no subject
Exhausted was a constant state of being back home. She can handle exhausted. She plops down into the seat beside him. She actually hates that part about being ORANGE as well. It's been her biggest complaint.
It's not so much ORANGE as it is everything that's been going on since she was promoted. She's chosen not to sleep, use the gas mask and patrol more intensely. She takes a deep breath. "You've heard about the shooter? Plus I'm now in charge of patrolling Commissary, 14th floor and 16th." She pauses a moment. "And then when I did sleep last night...wonky dreams.: The way she says dreams suggests that she doesn't think they're dreams. She knows they're memories, but some one else's.
She's okay, and she'll take that for now. She turns her attention to Derek. "How are you doing though?"
no subject
"Wait, by yourself? What the hell, that's way too much ground to have to cover all by yourself," he says, annoyed both by the fact that it's going to run her ragged and by the fact that it means the security on those floors is, in a word, shitty. One person cannot be everywhere at once and if she's got to patrol three floors, one of which is the goddamn Commissary, there's no way in hell that all of those floors are safe. Not fourteen and sixteen while she's here, for example, or the Commissary and fourteen while she's on sixteen, and so on. That's just a way to cop out. When something terrible inevitably happens on her watch but she was watching another floor at the time, she'll get blamed and it won't be her fault. Again, Derek feels a surge of rage on his friend's behalf that he has to swallow back.
But then she mentions the dreams and Derek's eyes narrow in thought. "Yeah, well, you're in good company with that," he tells her. "I think a lot of us had them." Katniss did. He did. Adam did. Now Buffy. He's willing to bet that if these dreams work for everyone they way they seemed to work for Adam, then whoever Buffy dreamed about and whoever Katniss dreamed about experienced it as well.
"Been worse," he replies. "But I've also been better. Pretty much par for the course around here." He pauses. "We miss you in the room, though."
no subject
She shakes her head, smiling. "No. I've got another person with me. We trade shifts and that sort of thing." She's going to run herself ragged quite honestly. She hesitates and her voice drops in volume. "And if you're interested, I'm going to be patrolling most nights after lights out." Because she will feel guilty if anything happens to anyone else while she was snug in her bed, or if something gets put into effect while she's asleep.
"I sort of figured that out," she sighs and pinches the bridge of her nose. It's a mirror of something Giles used to do; she definitely learned it from watching him. "You too?" she asks, glancing at him, concern in her expression.
She tilts her head a little in a sort of shrug then smiles. "I miss you both too. Look out for each other, okay? And I'm going to be around. We can always do the exploring thing." In fact, she wouldn't mind patrolling through the halls at night with both her boys.
no subject
His eyes shift over in Buffy's direction, up from the table in front of him. "Yeah?" he asks. "So you are patrolling by yourself, you're just not on patrol twenty-four/seven," he says more than asks. Then, Derek nods. "Yeah, I'm interested. How long are you on this shift? I have to be up early tomorrow to turn in this shit but after tomorrow..."
With a nod, Derek frowns. Yeah, I spent last night getting the shit kicked out of me, he thinks to himself but if he wants Adam to keep his mouth shut, then Derek has to keep his end of the bargain, too. It isn't his place to go spouting off the crap that kid went through anymore than it's Adam's to shout from the rooftops that Derek is a monster. "It was a long night," he says, instead. "You know, you don't have to stay in that ORANGE room, right? You're always welcome in ours. We kept your bed for you and we won't let anybody else take it," he promises.
no subject
"The situation is not perfect," she admits. She doesn't blame Steve though. He's doing the best that he can. She smiles when he says he's interested. "I thought you might be. I'm on it indefinitely." Until things calm down.
Yeah, Buffy hadn't gotten the shit kicked out of her, but she hadn't had an easy night either. She may end up taking a nap and waking up in the middle of the night to patrol. She nods a little. Yeah, she understands. Derek's offer makes her unsurprisingly teary but incredibly happy. "You know, I think maybe I'll drop by and have a nap. You haven't gotten a new room mate yet?"
She really, really hopes that they haven't.
no subject
Buffy says the situation "is not perfect" and Derek has to hold his tongue to keep from pointing out that that's the understatement of the century and...that she sounds like she's trying to placate an uninformed party. Like this soldier shit they have her doing is getting in her head a little too much. That's not her fault, she's probably had to say stuff like that a million times over since waking up here. Eventually, repetition becomes reflex. "Well, that sucks for you, to be sure. But yeah, I'm in. Starting tomorrow."
Seeing her teary-eyed response to his comment, Derek huffs a small laugh. It's endearing how much something so simple can mean to a person in a place as unwelcoming as this one. "No, just me and Alcide. Unless you count the nighttime visitors both expected and unexpected, but they don't stay." By that, he means they don't live in that room. Katniss comes in pretty much every night now and when Derek woke up this morning the first time, there had been someone else in Alcide's bed — which, he probably would've been pissed off about on Buffy's behalf, except she looked like a kid, so he doubts there's anything to that.
