It’s flattering really, how much the crowd won’t stop cheering. Maybe this is how Tony feels on stage during his expos — or every day back home, honestly — and it reminds Steve of the days when people cheered when he turned to punch Hitler in the jaw hundreds of times. That and holding up a motorcycle. People always cheered for that too.
When it’s his turn to speak, Steve lifts up the microphone in his hand. For anyone in the room that hasn’t heard his voice, there’s a confidence in it that wasn’t projected when he was just standing to the side.
“I know everyone here works hard for their credits. I’m just glad we could come up with a way for everyone to get an equal shot at winning — even those who have a big heart, but not as big of a wallet.”
He smiles and his eyes shift, naturally, to another part of the audience to establish eye contact.
“At the end of the evening, a few minutes before the band plays the last song, I’ll draw one of the names out of a hat, and read it out loud. If you’re still here — and I hope you are — my last dance- It’s yours.”
