It's actually incredibly weird to agree with an Argent who isn't, specifically, Chris. Even then, it had taken Derek a little while, but Allison's right and it's something Derek's actually been thinking about as well: using the idiotic demonstrations of the secret societies here as a distraction under which they can move their own agenda forward.

He appreciates the way that Allison is carrying herself, because he's already doing the same and it would probably look weird if they weren't equally pretending to be commenting innocently back and forth at the moment. They're supposed to be paying attention to the ceremony, but they're both Specials and so are Lydia and Holtz, at least, if not the others that are up there. It makes sense that they could be discussing their feelings on those people getting those promotions. So long as, of course, they both look the part.

So Derek nods and hums his agreement with a little mmhmm to let Allison know that they're on the same page. He's working a lot more quietly, still getting to know the people around him. The more he gets to know the other Specials; other Alphas that he works with in IntSec, the easier it will be for him to maneuver through this place. "There's a guy here that looks like Jackson," he says and it sounds off topic for a moment before Derek continues. He does have a point.

"His name is Ronan. He says that they drug you if you show dissent. So whatever we do, we need to be especially careful about it otherwise we need to get loud. No one outside of Beacon Hills knows. None of us talk unless we know it's safe," he practically whispers. "If we get caught, there's no way of knowing whether we're going to get drugged and sent back out or whether we'll be detained. The former is preferable and if we think we're going to get caught, then we need to find out a way to make sure we get the drugs and not arrested. I'll pick his brain more if you pick Lydia's. She's been here a while, if she's getting another promotion. She probably knows more than all three of the rest of us combined."

He doesn't mention the fact that he's not entirely confident Lydia hasn't turned full-on Alpha Citizen, because if anyone would believe his suspicion, it sure as hell isn't going to be Allison. So he latches onto the rest instead. "We need to find out what makes the Computer tick, how it's choosing the Specials, and how it's getting us here. Then, reverse each of those processes. That way, we go home and no new Specials get yanked out of their own worlds to replace us," he goes on just as quietly. He looks over at Allison, then, and actually cranes his neck back when he realizes just how close their faces are. He's willing to work with her, but that doesn't make the sudden realization that they were damn near on top of one another any less awkward or uncomfortable...or off-putting. One Argent woman in his life was one too many.

"My troubleshooting station? I'm a Physical Fitness Assessor in IntSec. What about you?" Something with weapons or fighting, he imagines. He'd probably be in the same sort of position if he had his "mutant" abilities.
