As far as Citizen Improvement goes, Derek's not a big fan of attending. He couldn't give less of a shit about that stuff if someone paid him to try, so his attendance is always specifically decided on whether or not he's actually semi-interested in the event at hand. Or, in this case, it's mandatory. Derek hangs back but he gives a loud, two-fingered whistle of approval when Holtz gets her official promotion. He'll be a little bummed to lose her from their room, if he's honest, but he's happy for her. Promotions typically mean perks and Derek's pretty sure that one of the only things that could actually count as a perk in this place is real food. He hopes Holtz gets access to some with this, otherwise, is it really worth it?
He's impressed but not surprised when he hears Lydia's name. Having learned belatedly how to use the network, he'd looked back and seen plenty of posts from Lydia with regard to creating new products. He'll buy them, half to support someone from home and half because it beats the hell out of the shitty stuff he's got access to now, but when he hears a woo! in the background a ways away, he can't help laughing. Whoever that is, they're apparently a fan of Lydia. He would've thought Allison, except that the louder clapping a few feet away from him against the back wall has him looking to see that, no, Allison is right there. Alive. Allison is alive.
Derek moves a little closer. They've never particularly gotten along and they haven't any real reason to, but Derek can still appreciate that it's nice to see her alive. "Hey," he says with a weak smile because this is awkward, but the least he can do is alert her to the fact that he's here if Lydia and Stiles haven't already. It's only fair. He'll stay out of her way and she will probably stay out of his, he imagines, but it seems only fair to at least make himself known on his own terms. "It's good to see you," he adds. Alive, he keeps to himself. "Maybe not in this place, but...are you doing okay?"
