Especially when Katniss entire demeanor is all but telling him to back off, but even if she may not be a kid, exactly, she still looks young enough to him for him to label her as such.

He doesn't let his features change, though. He remains as casual as possible, although he's a little bit more alert to her movements even if he doesn't quite show it.
