Slowly, Zatanna nods. They took away the magic, indeed. Her spells are completely useless and that leaves her feeling naked and vulnerable in a strange, scary place. "Because they took the magic away," she agrees after a moment.

She gets the feeling that maybe she isn't alone in that, come to think of it; not with the way the other woman looks down at her own hands before looking back up again. Zee wonders whether the source of her abilities, if she has them, is her hands rather than her words, the way it is for Zee.

"Born, not so much. It took a lot of work. I was born into a mystical family, so I have ties there, but we aren't born with magic so much as the ability to harness it? It's hard to explain," she replies, "but essentially, I've been doing magic for years and I'm not exactly whelmed at the fact that I can't do it here. That shouldn't be able to happen. It's a learned skill...how do you take away a learned skill?"
