"We are together," he promised her. It wasn't a lie. They might not be together, but neither was he going to leave her side. Even had she been in the place when she couldn't work with him and had left the team altogether, he'd never abandon her. "And both of us, from where I'm from, we're fine."

It wasn't the answer to the question she couldn't quite bring herself to ask, but he really hoped that she didn't finish asking it. He knew he was walking that thin edge where he was misleading her but not quite actively lying to her and the guilty part of his conscience reminded him that Felicity wouldn't have seen a difference.

He took her hand, raised it to his lips, and kissed it. "A lot of things happened when we went back to Star City and I don't know how I'm going to tell you about half of them." And for the first time since she'd mentioned Ivy Town, he wasn't only talking about their relationship or even about his son. There was Ray and her back and her father and her company. And Laurel.

"Our relationship for me is built on all these things that you don't know and it's not fair to either of us if I were to pretend that we were still living that suburban life where we grilled with the neighbors. I'm just asking that you give me time to tell you."

He took her face in his hands. "I know that it sounds like I'm breaking up with you, but I can promise that my feelings for you haven't changed. I still love you. Can you trust me for a little while?"
