It if was possible for Captain America to be this proud of acquiring a cake, no one at home would believe him. But it was Dick, and the Specials rarely had something like this to celebrate, so he’d dedicated most of his off-duty time to figuring out what he could get with his status, and what he could barter from others.

The result was something small, but just as fluffy and delicious as he remembered.

He’d shouts SURPRISE with everyone else and smiles with Dick was genuinely shocked.

A little later, when it looks like Dick and Lydia were done talking, he walks over and claps a hand on Dick’s shoulder.

“Happy Birthday,” he says, beaming.
