See, now if Matt had all his senses, he'd realize that Ray had stuck his hand out in front of him and he'd shake it without it seeming too awkward. However, we've belabored the deaf, numb, blah blah point.
Actually the awkwardness makes Matt feel a little better. At least everyone isn't staring at him (and yes, he's aware enough to realize that he's in a room with several other people). The awkwardness gives him something to focus on. "M-Matt," he stammers out a bit breathlessly (but yay! he's not hyperventilating so that's good). "Murdock. I-" He swallows and takes a breath, desperately trying to tell anything about the area they're in. All he can smell are people, nothing distinct, at least not right now. To save Ray (kind of) he puts his hand out to let Ray shake it. "I can just take your arm. You just need to let me know about any obstacles or stairs ahead of me."
And for once, he actually needs someone to lead him; it's not an act for the general public. He's never had to be truly blind. He just had to learn how to use all of his new found hyper-senses to 'see'. He'll adapt quickly enough though, but that doesn't mean he'll like it.
