Daycycle 6 [ Nov 21-25 ]

DAYCYCLE 6

[ NOV 21-25 ]

MORNING

Matt Farrell will be woken up at 0430 when a squad of Internal Security Gray Ops come to arrest Natasha Romanoff for treason.  She is led away at gunpoint and any requests for information will be denied by higher level officers, claiming it’s classified.

Things are mostly back to normal on Daycycle 6, though rumor has it that Internal Security will now be extremely selective about the Specials placed in their sectors.  Those that have current Internal Security jobs (Parker, Barry Allen and Lydia Martin) will be under heavy surveillance.

The briefing officer seems particularly short this morning and barks out today’s mission with little helpful information.

Troubleshooter Team: Gaius Maecenas & Steve Rogers

Mission:  A bomb threat has been issued by PURGE in the Power Services sector.  Assist the Emergency Disaster Response Team (EDRT) in locating and defusing the bomb.  Intel indicates that the EDRT has been heavily subverted by PURGE and may have planted the bomb themselves.

All other Troubleshooters:  You are to report to your Service Firm positions for the day, until called on for Troubleshooter duty.

Intel:  Three Specials have defected since their implementation.  Cloning scientists are working to make sure that these errors in judgement do not occur again, but in the meantime all Troubleshooters are to treat Specials with a high level of suspicion.

AFTERNOON

At 1200 Matt Farrell will be brought in for interrogation about the treasonous actions of his roommate, Natasha Romanoff.  It is heavily implied that he was working with her and Mills. This time he will be kept for two hours.  When he is released he is told that he will be monitored closely in the future.

The Historical Battle Reenactors will be putting on a reenactment of the War of the Worlds beginning at 0400 this afternoon.  It will be disrupted when the entire cast is arrested for treason when it is discovered they are not enacting the latest version of the War of the Worlds history.

EVENING

There will be a chess tournament in the RED cafeteria this evening at 1900.  The winner will be awarded 1000cr and a trophy.Sleep aid gas is expelled into the sleeping quarters at 2100.

There's something wrong about calmly playing chess while talking about something that could've all too easily gone south the day before. Barry had been in worse situations, but he hadn't been that helpless in a long while. There was no doubt that it was Lydia's quick thinking and bravado that had saved them yesterday and not him.

It bothered him. He missed his speed. He missed the ability to help people and to make a real difference. Here he was just Barry and while he would do what he could, he already knew it wouldn't be enough if something like that happened again.

"Crazy white girl," he repeats with a smile. "Is that the moniker you're going for here?"

Admittedly, Lydia's willing to brush past the events of the other day as casually as she is because it makes her feel like the one who won. It makes her feel stronger than she is and that's something Lydia never gets to feel. She needs that right now, in this place where she's all alone in a crowded room. I miss Allison... she finds herself thinking and her body stiffens at the dregs of the memory of feeling her best friend die.

"Are you saying it doesn't fit?" she asks, lifting an eyebrow and moving another piece on the board. Her eyes move to meet his and she grins. "I like Lydia better, but there's a certain ring to Crazy White Girl that commands some sort of respect, if just out of fear, no?"

She's quiet then, for a moment; thoughtful. Suddenly, Lydia leans forward against the table, looking Barry in the eye. "Do you think there's a reward for turning in traitors?" she whispers, careful to direct the soft words right at Barry so that the dull buzz of the crowd will drown it out for anyone who shouldn't be hearing it.

[ He grins at her, glancing down at the board. Even if she hasn't officially entered into the competition, she's proving to be the best match he's had so far. ]

I don't know, it seems like it'd be kind of exhausting to keep up a name like that.

[ His expression sobers at her question and he studies her face for a moment. He clears his throat, looking down at the board. If Lydia is wanting to turn in traitors, it may be best if she doesn't know that he's gearing up to be one.]

I don't know. Why?

Barry's met with another facial shrug. "I don't know, I could swing it if I thought it'd keep me safe," she admits quietly; thoughtfully. It worked once. Surely those two idiots didn't tell anyone, lest they look like pansies, but rumor had a fast way of spreading when it wanted to and she could always nudge it along a little, if she felt she had no better choice.

"Because those assholes were wearing jumpsuits just like we were," she says calmly, waiting for Barry to move his piece before making another move of her own and taking one of his rooks. "And frankly, I could use a few cute outfits or a decent meal once in a while. After what they did...stealing government property and just leaving us out there like that? Fuck 'em, I'll turn them in. I don't care." Her voice is muttered softly, but there's still an icy bitterness in its undertone as her eyes shift up to Barry with a cool nonchalance behind them. Lydia's willing to throw those men under the bus specifically because they'd wronged her. No other reason than she's sick and tired of needing saved.

No idea why I switched to action. Sorry!

He understands the thinking behind that. Keeping safe is proving to be something that isn't easy to do around here. The fact that he was so helpless to help himself, let along Lydia is still eating away at him, despite his easy smiles. The problem with being a hero is that it's hard to stop when you're not one anymore.

Barry freezes, his eyes moving up from the board to meet hers. He understands that thinking also. The need to get some kind of justice and regain some kind of control. He licks his lips slowly, putting his chess piece back down where it had been previously and leaning forward.

"We are forensic scientists," he says, his voice low. She hasn't actually said anything about a we, but he's not about to let her try to do this on her own. She'd already done more than enough. This was something he could actually help her with. "I don't know the model of the truck they had, but how many could there be here?"

Lydia's quiet for a moment, looking back at him and trying to gauge whether he can be trusted. She likes to think he can. She likes to believe there's someone here that will have her back and why not Barry? They work together. They could've died together.

"I do," she says smoothly in reference to the truck. "Assuming the emblem wasn't stolen and added for strategic or aesthetic reasons. I don't know the year, but I know the make and model. You just have to know where to look on the car to find that...I did that when Scummy McRapey was writhing on the ground."

Her eyes move from the board back to his face and she lowers her voice to a whisper. "I want to trust you. Please don't make me regret that."
