He shifts his position and Katniss recognizes the cue. He's settling down to go to sleep and she should shift to change her position in his arms to the one she normally takes when trying to fall asleep. Her back to his front, safe and warm in his arms. But he still seems as awake as she feels right now. Katniss hates that trying to comfort and assure her might bring pain to Derek. It's not fair. (Not that anything ever is). He's been through so much and here she is, just reminding him of all the destruction he's caused - especially to those that he loves.

She presses another kiss to his lips and then trails a few along his jawline. It's not the response he probably wanted when he shifted in the bed but Katniss doesn't care. He always comforts her. It's a favor that she should - more important wants - to return. So she keeps peppering his face with small kisses as her hand runs up and down his bicep soothingly. She keeps it up until the start of his confession. Then she pulls away, brow furrowing in confusion.

"You said you were fine," she insists, her lips pressed into a thin, serious line. It's tempting to pull away the covers to check Derek over for injuries just to make sure he hadn't lied to her about that. The worry nags at her and her confused look becomes something of a glare in response. "Don't lie to me, Derek. Did you get injured?"
