That blip of blessed heightened senses has come and gone for Matt. He's left fighting blind (literally), but he's got no intention of sitting this one out. He's far too angry for that. He happens to be close by when Alcide is slammed in the back of the head. His hearing is still better than most people's and he'd heard him say something to one of the masked attackers about not being their enemy. That's what has him working his way toward Alcide in the first place. When he hears the pipe hit someone's head, he steps in, throwing a Jack Murdock worthy jab to hit the attacker in the cheekbone (he'd been going for the chin). In any case, it's hard enough to make the man stumble back and give Alcide (and Matt) a little space.

"Hey, you okay?" he says to Alcide, offering his hand to help him up if necessary.
