Even as they move, Derek keeps her close and he shakes his head a little. "Good thing we're not going to the Commissary, then," he tells her, steering them down the corridor and to the elevator. He's glad when they're alone in it and he doesn't make her talk nor does he speak as they make their way down to the eleventh floor where the RED sleeping quarters are.

Derek assumes that his two roommates are still at their troubleshooting positions, or else they're in the Commissary, and he finds he isn't wrong when he leads Katniss into the empty bedroom.

That's when he finally lets go of her so that he can close the door behind them. "Here, have a seat," he offers, gesturing toward the bed that no one's using at the moment; the only one that isn't a bunk. "I thought you might prefer a little bit of privacy, instead of the rest of the department and the clients watching..." he adds a little awkwardly.

A large part of him wants to go back to her, but he's not sure it'll be welcome or whether the moment for her to embrace being comforted has passed, so he hovers near the bed but doesn't join her on it just then.
